9. Replacing battery
With conventional devices you only notice flat batteries because the device
no longer functions (e.g. with a radio or a remote control).
With such an important device such as a smoke alarm, this could
have fatal consequences!
Therefore the smoke alarm emits a short alarm from a certain battery status
(approx. every 48 seconds). Apart from this, the red LED flashes three times
every 48 seconds.
Replace the old batteries then with a complete set of new batteries.
The service life of a new battery set (alkaline type) can for radio
smoke alarms extend to up to 3 years (if the alarm is not triggered).
Proceed as follows to replace the batteries:
• Remove the smoke alarm from the lower bulb by turning it in the clockwise
direction.
• Remove the three used batteries from the battery compartments.
• Insert three new Mignon batteries (AA). Pay attention to correct polarity (see
illustration in the battery compartments or figure 7 on page 41).
• After inserting the batteries, the red LED will flash approx. every 48 seconds
once briefly and thus signalises that the smoke alarm is ready for operation.
• Place the smoke alarm on the lower bulb and lock the housing by turning
it in the clockwise direction. For correct positioning, the red triangles
fastened in the lower bulb and in the smoke alarm will help.
For safety reasons, the housing cannot be locked without
batteries!
