9. DMX Connection

You can operate a maximum of 32 devices in a DMX chain without overloading the controller.
The maximum total length of the DMX chain should not exceed 500 m.
Use the enclosed DMX adapter line or any other suitable DMX line with suitable, water-protected screw-in
plugs for DMX connection. Carefully screw on the connection lines to prevent wetness from entering the
connections. Screw the enclosed covers to connections that you do not use to ensure water-proofness of
the connections. Since the end of the DMX line with the XLR-plug is not protected from wetness, it must be
placed indoors or in a water-protected location. If the line length of the enclosed line is not sufficient, you
may purchase the corresponding lines from us in different lengths.
a) Connection of a DMX Controller
Only connect the device to a DMX controller with a DMX-512 protocol.
• Connect the port DMX IN (2) with the output of the DMX controller.
• The controller must have 8 free control channels.
• Connect DMX OUT (1) with the DMX input of the subsequent DMX device.
• Proceed accordingly with all other devices of the DMX chain.
• If the effect light is the last or the only device in the DMX chain, insert an XLR plug with a 120 ohm/0.25 W termina-
ting resistor into the DMX OUT (1) socket (between Pin2 and Pin3).
Pin assignment of the DMX connection: Pin1 = earth / Pin2 = (-) / Pin3 = (+).
Never connect the earth pin GND to the casing earth of the effect light; this may result in interference in
signal transmission caused by ground loops.
