TIPS FOR PROPER LAWN MOWING
WORKING ON SLOPES:
Slopes are one of the main causes of accidents in which the mower loses control and tips over, which can cause serious
or even fatal injuries.
CAUTION: There is no such thing as a "safe" slope! Driving on grassy slopes requires special
concentration. For safety reasons, the machine should not be used on slopes steeper than 10°
(17.6%). Risk of injury!
-
A 10° slope corresponds to a vertical height increase of 17.6 cm for a horizontal distance of 100 cm.
-
Avoid starting or stopping on a slope.
-
Do not use the machine in areas (slopes, ditches, etc.) where the mower could tip over or slide. The risk
of tipping over or sliding increases if the ground is soft or wet.
-
Slopes should be driven lengthwise.
-
Driving sideways increases the risk of rollover.
-
Do not abruptly change speed or direction when driving on slopes. Working in these types of situations
requires calm, cautious, and even handling of the mower.
-
Avoid changing direction on slopes. Only turn on slopes if unavoidable.
-
Drive slowly and in a sharp curve toward the downhill slope.
-
Do not mow wet grass, especially on slopes, as wheel grip is reduced on wet grass. The mower could
slip and become uncontrollable.
-
When driving on slopes, never disengage the transmission via the transmission freewheel.
-
Extra care must be taken when operating attachments on slopes (altered weight distribution of the
machine).
-
If the wheels begin to spin or if the vehicle stalls while driving uphill, disengage the mower blade or
attachment. Then, drive slowly downhill in a straight line.
-
Never try to stabilize the mower by pressing your foot down on the ground.
-
The weight of the grass catcher increases the risk of the mower tipping over, especially when it is full.
-
Never empty or raise the grass catcher on a slope.
STOPPING AND PARKING
-
The mower should only be parked on a level surface.
-
Make sure the mower has come to a complete stop before dismounting.
-
Be careful with the cutting tool, which may run for several seconds before stopping.
-
Before leaving the driver's seat, disengage the cutting blade or accessory drive, lower the mower deck and all
attachments, place all control levers in the neutral position, engage the parking brake, stop the engine, and
remove the ignition key.
-
Store the ignition key where only authorized persons can access it. Pay attention to ensure you don't bump
into or run over anything that could damage the mower. The mower could be damaged and/or the machine
could cause bodily injury.
-
A hot engine, exhaust, or drive unit can burn skin if touched. Therefore, do not touch these parts unless the
mower has been turned off for a while and you know they have cooled down.
-
Lack of natural light or even insufficient artificial light is a reason not to mow the lawn.
-
Check the lawn mower, blade, and other parts to see if they have hit any foreign objects or if the
machine vibrates more than usual.
-
Do not make any adjustments or repairs until the engine is off. Remove the filler cap.
-
Pay special attention if you are mowing directly next to a street or near traffic. Always keep the grass
