6. MIDI CONTROL
he R100 makes it possible to select specific programs via external MIDI control. You can set up the R100, for
example, so that when you select a voice on your synthesizer the most appropriate effect for that voice is automati-
cally selected. This is accomplished because each time you select a voice on your MIDI synthesizer it transmits the cor-
responding MIDI PROGRAM CHANGE
NUMBER (e.g. if you select voice number 16, program change number "16" is
transmitted via the synthesizer's MIDI OUT terminal). MIDI PROGRAM CHANGE NUMBERS are also transmitted by
a MIDI foot controller such as the Yamaha МЕСО5, allowing convenient foot- selection of desired effect programs. The
R100 receives the transmitted PROGRAM CHANGE NUMBER and selects the effect program that you have assigned to
it using the MIDI CONTROL mode.
Note: The MIDI OUT connector of the MIDI device
which will transmit MIDI program change num-
bers to the R100 must be connected to the R100's
MIDI IN connector via a standard MIDI cable.
1. Press the MIDI button. The PGM LED indicator will
light and a MIDI PROGRAM CHANGE number between.
1 and 99 will appear on the LED numeric display.
2. While the PGM LED is lit, use the A and W buttons to
select the MIDI PROGRAM CHANGE NUMBER to
which you wish to assign an effect program number.
3. Press the MIDI button again — the MEMORY
LED
indicator will light and the currently selected effect pro-
gram number will be displayed on the LED numeric dis-
play.

4. Use the А and У buttons to select the number of the
effect program you wish to assign to the MIDI PRO-
GRAM CHANGE NUMBER selected in step 2.
Note: When the R100 is initially shipped, the effects are
all assigned to the corresponding MIDI
PRO-
GRAM CHANGE NUMBERS — 1.e. effect num-
ber 1 is selected by MIDI program change number
1, effect 2 is selected by program change number
2, etc.

5. The PGM and MEMORY
LED indicators will light
alternately each time you press the MIDI button. Con-
tinue assigning effect programs to MIDI program change
numbers by repeating steps 1 through 4.
6. When all necessary program change number assign- |
ments have been made, press and hold the MIDI button
until the MIDI CONTROL mode is exited (the PGM or
MEMORY LED will go out and the previously selected
mode — memory select or parameter edit — will be re-
sumed after the MIDI button has been held for approxi-
mately one second.
