Conditions for optimal measurement results:
The device can also determine the conductivity through thin blisters and foils (max. 0.25
mm thickness). However, the measuring accuracy will decrease. The best results are
obtained when the probe tip is placed directly on the test object.
The contact surface on the test object should cover at least the sensor tip (approx. 3.5
mm) to ensure accurate measurement.
The contact surface should be as plane as possible (we recommend a spot without
embossing) and not strongly curved.
Place the probe tip perpendicular to the test object and not diagonally.
The thickness of the test object must be greater than the penetration depth (min.
0.5 mm).
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Please always compare the measured values to the conductivity value tables in the annex of this
instruction manual or with other sources (see also Chapter 6: Evaluation and Interpretation of
the Results).
A 50 Euro cent coin, for instance, has a similar conductivity as the Krugerrand Gold (alloy 916(A),
see on page 31), platinum or palladium. When measuring the 50 cent coin, the GoldScreenPen
can therefore output the conductivity of Gold 916 as the measurement result, even if it is not
the alloy in question. If one compares dimensions and weight, it quickly becomes clear that no
Krugerrand.
The test objects must be at least 0.5 mm thick; blisters can be up to 0.25 mm thick. If there are
metallic components in the supposed plastic packaging, no reliable measurement can be
guaranteed. It is important to always wait 3 to 5 seconds between each measurement so that
the device can calibrate itself. If you place the sensor tip too quickly one after the other, there
may be deviations in the measured values. If you notice that suddenly only "wrong" values are
displayed, e.g. significantly lower values than just measured, you should restart the device.
Always test the front and the back side of all of your objects with the GoldScreenPen.
Please also note the special cases in Chapter 6: Evaluation and Interpretation of the Results!
