Faults, causes and remedies

Fault
The Pump runs but no delivery
The pump is vibrating
The pump overheats
The pump fails to run
No sufficient flow
Installation and operating instructions Wilo-BAC
• Always keep the pump perfectly clean.
• To avoid any blocking of the shaft and the hydraulic system in frosty
periods, empty the pump by removing the drain plug (on the lower
part of hydraulic) and the filling plug. Screw the 2 plugs back in with-
out tightening them.
• If there is no risk of frost, do not drain the pump.
Only qualified personnel is allowed to repair. Observe the safety
instructions as described in chapter 9 "Maintenance/Service" on
page 28.
• If a fault cannot be remedied, contact a specialist, the after-sales
department or the nearest sales office.
Cause
Pump obstructed by the internal
parts
Suction pipe obstructed
Water level/suction pressure is insuf-
ficient
The suction pressure is too low; this is
generally accompanied by cavitation
noise
Wrong direction of rotation
The supply voltage to the motor is
too low
The pump is installed loosely on its
foundation
Foreign bodies inside the pump
The pump runs with difficulty, dam-
aged bearing
Electrical connection of the pump is
wrong
Voltage supply is too low
Particles obstructing the pump
Ambient temperature above 40 °C
No power
Turbine is blocked
Motor protection has triggered
The motor speed is not high enough
(caused by particles or too low volt-
age)
The motor is defective
Water level/suction pressure is insuf-
ficient
Wrong direction of rotation
Wear of the internal parts
Remedy
Check and clean the pump
Check and clean the pipe
Fill the storage tank, vent the pump
Loss of head on suction or suction height
too great (check the NPSH of the pump
installed)
Invert two phase wires on the motor ter-
minal block or circuit-breaker
Check the voltage and the wire sections
of the cable
Check and tighten completely the nuts of
the stud bolts
Have the pump dismantled and clean it
Have the pump repaired by the after-
sales
Check and correct the pump connection
Check the voltage on the terminals of the
motor; it should be within ±10 % of the
rated voltage
Have the pump dismantled and clean it
The motor is designed to operate at an
ambient temperature of not more than
+40 °C, if necessary, install a cooling sys-
tem
Check the power supply, fuses, cables
Clean the pump
Check and adjust the motor protection
Clean the pump, check the electrical sup-
ply
Call the after-sales service, replace the
motor
Fill the storage tank, vent the pump
Invert two phases wires on the motor ter-
minal block or circuit-breaker
Have the pump repaired by the after-
sales service
