4.10 HRC MODE (TARGET PULSE; P18 - P22)
The computer regulates the resistance in all HRC programs according to the current pulse:
- If the current pulse is above the selected target pulse, the resistance is reduced.
- If the current pulse is below the selected target pulse, the resistance is increased.
WARNING! Heart rate monitoring systems may be inaccurate. Over exercising may result
in serious injury or death. If you feel faint stop exercising immediately.
Maximum heart rate (MHR) is a peak value that can be dangerous to reach. In normal
training, even trained athletes should not exceed 85% of the MHR.
Do not overexert yourself or others when performing the training! Always pay attention
to individual general and daily fitness!
When selecting the target pulse, also refer to chapter 4.3.
4.10.1 Entering target pulse as a proportion of MHR (P18 - P21)
Programs 18 to 21 allow users to select a target heart rate as a percentage of the age-related maximum
heart rate (MHR). The age is entered on the training computer. The default value is 35 years.
The four programs correspond to the following percentages of the maximum heart rate (MHR):
PROGRAM
Intensity/ share of MHR
Example: Age = 47 years;
desired intensity 65% (P19)
The computer first calculates the maximum heart rate (MHR) according to the following formula:
MHR = 220 - entered age
=> Calculated MHR = 220 - 47 = 173 BPM
The computer then calculates the target pulse (MHR) according to the following formula:
Target pulse = MHR * training intensity
=> Calculated target pulse = 173 BPM * 65% = 113 BPM
Make sure the training computer is in STOP mode (STOP is displayed). If necessary, press the STOP
button.
Press UP or DOWN until the HRC program corresponding to the desired intensity (proportion of the
maximum pulse) is displayed (P18 to P21). Confirm with ENTER.
Press the START/STOP button on the training computer to start the training.
Never overexert yourself! If the program is too strenuous, reduce the intensity!
4.10.2 Entering the target pulse as a numerical value (program 22)
In program 22, users can enter the target pulse as a numerical value.
Make sure the training computer is in STOP mode (STOP is displayed). If necessary, press the STOP
button.
Press UP or DOWN until program 22 is displayed. Confirm with ENTER.
The target pulse flashes on the display. Press UP or DOWN until the desired target pulse is displayed
(80 to 180 BPM: default is 120 BPM). WARNING! Never choose a value that is too high! Confirm with
ENTER.
4.10.3 Entering further target values and starting HRC program
In addition, possible target parameters flash one after the other
(TIME (time duration), DISTANCE (distance) or CAL (calories)).
When the desired parameter is displayed, enter the target value with UP or DOWN .
Confirm with the ENTER key.
Press the START/STOP button on the training computer to start the training.
