Operating instructions TBi PP-TX welding torch

3.4 Electrical connection

Danger!
The supply voltage to the welding machine must be disconnected before starting installation
work. It must be ensured that the entire facility remains switched of for the duration of the work.
There is a risk of fatal electric shock.
You must observe the 'Safety instructions' at the beginning of this document.

3.4.1 Connectivity

3.4.1.1 Connection via TBi control board (Standard)
Normally the TBi Push-Pull torch is connected most easily using the control board supplied. The supply voltage
for the Push-Pull motor is thus branched off the main feed motor. An adjustment of the characteristic curve is
not possible, but this solution generally works fine with most feed units. Please make connections according to
the diagrams in the next section.
The TBi control board limits the nominal current to approx. 1.5 A at the maximum supply voltage of 42 V. During
spin-up and when the motor is blocked, the current will be higher. Please ensure that the conditions listed below
are met before connecting.
Important note!
The following conditions must be met to connect the TBi PP-TX welding torch:
1. Supply voltage of the main drive unit is max. 42 V DC
2. The supply voltage of the main drive unit must reach at least 24V DC at maximum wire
speed.
3. The supply electronics of the main drive can supply at least an additional 1.5 A for the
Push-Pull motor and is equipped with overload protection.
4. The branching of the supply current at the main drive must not influence the process
control.
Please note the operating instructions of the welding machine manufacturer. If in doubt,
please contact your welding machine retailer or manufacturer.
If the conditions listed are not met, please choose another connection type!
Attention!
A direct connection to the voltage source without TBi control board or the non-fulfilment of
the aforementioned conditions can lead to operational faults, increase wear and cause
damage to the torch and to the power source.
Note:
With some wire feeding systems, interactions with the control characteristics of the power
source may occur in conjunction with the TBi control board. A stable welding process is then
not achieved. Please choose another connection option if problems arise.
