Thermal behaviour of the entire system
The thermal conditions in a system are influenced by some boundary values. When
dimensioning a control cabinet or system the following points must be considered:
Ambient temperature of the controller
The rated data and the corresponding derating factors for higher temperatures are still
valid for the ambient temperature of the regenerative power supply module.
Heat generation inside control cabinets
In addition to the unit losses, which are to be dissipated via the heatsink, further losses
must be considered:
Internal losses of the regenerative power supply module
ƒ
– These losses are generated by the electronics supply, fans, DC−bus capacitors, etc.
Losses of the mains and motor components
ƒ
Heat dissipation from the external cooling unit to the inside of the control cabinets
ƒ
– This portion of the thermal energy depends, among others, on the cooling unit
type and its mounting.
Heat distribution to common coolers/in the control cabinet
If several components (controllers, braking units, etc.) are mounted on a common
collective cooler, it must be ensured that the temperature at the cooling plate of each
single components does not exceed 85_C.
Measures:
Ensure minimum free space around the convection cooler.

Do not install the components one on top of the other.
ƒ
If necessary, use internal fans to avoid heat concentration inside the control cabinet.
