Configuring the IR Temperature Sensor

The emissivity is a measure of an object's ability to absorb or radiate infrared radiation. The value can lie between
0...100 %. To compensate for spurious infrared radiation the emissivity can be set to 5...110 %. A table of the
emissivity of various materials can be found in Section 18 Emissivity Values on page 46.
The emissivity can be set very precisely by measuring the object temperature with the aid of a temperature gauge
and the emissivity then set on the IR temperature sensor so that both devices show the same temperature value.
Alternately the emissivity can be taught if the sensor is aligned with the target object and the object temperature is
known.

1. Align the sensor with the target object
until the maximum amplitude is achieved
and confirm with [↵].
2. Depending on the sensor setting enter the
actual temperature of the object in °C or
°F and confirm with [↵].
The emissivity is automatically calculated.
3. Use [↵].

If the units for the temperature value are set to %, then when teaching the emissivity values the view is
automatically set to °C. If the display needs to show °F, change the unit accordingly in the menu.
