For reasons of battery life, the graphic display will only be acti-
vated when a request takes place by pressing the right-hand but-
ton. The display disappears automatically after 60 seconds or the
user can turn it off sooner by pressing the right-hand button
again.
Naturally if activated.the automatic gale warning system is in
operation even during nondisplay time.
The lifespan of the batteries depends very heavily upon the dura-
tion of, and the number of display requests. If displays are
requested five times a day then a battery life of about one month
can be expected.
Current consumption from the internal batteries:
when display is ON:
when display is OFF: 0.064 mA
3.2 Operation using external batteries (e.g. shipboard
batteries)
The external power supply in this case comes via plug-in lead
supplied and the pluggable connection at the rear of the unit. The
voltage range is 10 V - 30 V. In this operating mode, the display
can be switched on and off at any time with the right-hand button.
If the unit has also been fitted with internal batteries (see 3.1
above), then it automatically switches over to the operating mode
described in 3.1 if the external power supply fails, with no loss of
data and no break in function.

When the unit is running on the external power supply, no current
