2 Precautionary measures

• Temperature:
Avoid exposing the unit to direct sunlight.
• Humidity:
When used in ocean-going yachts. the unit should be stood -
or fitted - in the splashproof navigation area.
• Power supply:
It is essential that the electrical connection and supply voltage
are correct (see Technical Data).
• Vibration:
Try to avoid knocks and jolts to the unit. as this can lead to mis-
adjustment of the pressure sensor.
• Display:
Never press down onto the LC display panel. as this can cause
irreparable damage. Never use solvents for cleaning the unit.

3.1 Operation using built-in batteries

The unit can be run independently of any external power supply.
in this case on four 1.5 V round cells (R6) inserted into the battery
compartment at the rear of the unit.
Inserting batteries for initial operation:
Remove the battery cover on the rear side of the unit by unscrew-
ing the two screws. Insert four 1.5 V round cell (R6) batteries into
the battery compartment. Take care that the batteries are correct-
ly inserted (polarity)! Close battery compartment.
Changing batteries:
When 'LO.BAT' indicator appears on the display then the internal
batteries are to be replaced. Always replace all four batteries. In
order to retain the stored pressure values and unit settings when
replacing batteries. Observe the following:
• When replacing the batteries to units with an external power
supply (shipboard battery or mains adapter), the power supply
must be maintained.
• Units with internal batteries:
Take care that the display has not been activated.
Replace the batteries quickly one after the other in order to
minimize power interruption time. Should a data-loss occur,
proceed according to sections 5.2. to 5.4.
