• When operating the product in the immediate vicinity of active, implantable systems
(e.g. pacemakers, defibrillators, etc.), ensure that the minimum distances stipulated
by the manufacturer of the implant are observed. Interference with active, implant-
able systems may occur due to the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the product.
Furthermore, make sure to observe any operating conditions and safety instructions
stipulated by the manufacturer of the implant.
• Instruct the patient how to use the Electrohand 2000 properly.
• The patient must take breaks during the setting up of the electrodes, otherwise muscle
fatigue will produce irregular results and this will tend to cause the therapist to set the
electrodes too sensitively.
• Please take care to place the electrodes so that the entire contact surface lies directly
on intact skin. If strong interference by electrical appliances still occurs, please check
the positioning of the electrodes and - if need be - reposition them. If the interference
cannot be eliminated, please contact an Ottobock Myo-Service Facility.
• Do not allow foreign particles or liquids to get into the hand. The hand should not be
subjected to intense smoke, dust, mechanical vibrations, shocks or high temperatures.
• Avoid staying near high-tension power lines, transmitters, transformers or other sourc-
es of strong electromagnetic radiation (such as security systems for goods in depart-
ment stores), as this can lead to malfunction of the Electrohand 2000.
• If the distance to HF communication devices (e.g. mobile phones, Bluetooth devices,
WiFi devices) is too small, interference with internal data communications can result in
malfunctions of the electric wrist rotator. Maintaining the following minimum distances
to these HF communication devices is recommended:
• Mobile phone GSM 850/GSM 900: 0.99 m
• Mobile phone GSM 1800/GSM 1900/UMTS: 0.7 m
• DECT cordless phones incl. base station: 0.35 m
• WiFi (routers, access points,...): 0.22 m
• Bluetooth devices (third-party products not approved by Ottobock): 0.22 m
Attention !
Driving Vehicles
An upper limb amputee's ability to drive a vehicle is determined on a case-by-case
basis. Factors include the type of fitting (amputation level, unilateral or bilateral, re-
sidual limb conditions, design of the prosthesis) and the amputee's abilities. Drivers
must observe driving laws applicable in their country. For insurance purposes,
we strongly recommend having your driving ability examined and confirmed by
an authorized agency.
For maximum safety and convenience, Ottobock recommends that the vehicle should
be adapted in a specialised garage (such as by installing a steering fork). For maxi-
mum safety, Ottobock recommends that motor vehicles are always operated with the
System Electric Hand switched OFF. Driving with the System Electric Hand switched
ON may endanger other traffic participants should it malfunction.
