APPARATUS
(see fold-out sheet at front)
[1] Type number/warning sticker
Provides information on the unit, such as type and se-
rial number, as well as connection data such as mains
voltage and current consumption.
[2] Potential equalization point
For use in areas where local regulations require connec-
tion of a potential equalization cable. An earth (ground)
cable and plug can be supplied.
[3] Mains switch, mains input and fuses
The switch is used to switch the Sonopuls 590 on and
off. The mains cable is connected to the mains input,
which is provided with two fuses.
[4] Carrying handle (retractable)
CONTROLPANEL
[5] 100 Hz pulsed mode selector
Pulsed ultrasound enables a high intensity to be ap-
plied while the mean power remains low. The ratio of pulse
duration to pulse interval is 1:4 (duty cycle = 20 %).
[6] Continuous mode selector
For continuous ultrasound with a high mean power.
[7] 48 Hz pulsed mode selector
The pulse frequency of 48 Hz is a multiple of 16 Hz.
The latter is a fundamental frequency of the calcium
system. The ratio of pulse duration to pulse interval is
1:4 (duty cycle = 20 %).
[8] 16 Hz pulse mode selector
This mode combines a low pulse frequency with a high-
energy pulse.
16 Hz is a fundamental frequency of the calcium sys-
tem. The ratio of pulse duration to pulse interval is 1:4
(duty cycle = 20 %).
[9] Treatment time controls
These controls are used to set the treatment time in
steps of 1 minute. Under 10 minutes the treatment time
can be set in intervals of half a minute using the minus-
control.
[10] Treatment head selector
Selector for treatment head A or B.
[11] Intensity controls
These controls are used to set the intensity. The maxi-
mum intensity can be set from zero by one touch on
the minus-control.
[12] Display function selector (W/cm
Switches the display function between intensity (W/cm
) and power (W). When the display is in power (W) the
unit allows for the area (ERA) of the treatment head.
[13] Treatment head connection A
Suitable for connection of a large or small 1 MHz or 3
12
MHz treatment head.
[14] 1 MHz indicator lamp
Indicates that a 1 MHz treatment head is in use.
[15] 3 MHz indicator lamp
Indicates that a 3 MHz treatment head is in use.
[16] Treatment head connection B
Suitable for connection of a large or small 1 MHz or 3
MHz treatment head.
ILLUMINATED DISPLAYS
[17] Treatment time display
When there is adequate ultrasound contact, the timer
will count down to zero. If the ultrasound contact be-
comes inadequate, the timer stops automatically.
[18] Intensity display
Depending on the choice of display function, this dis-
play
shows the intensity (W/cm
depends on the size of the treatment head. The setting
flashes as long as there is no adequate ultrasound con-
tact.
TREATMENT HEAD
[19] Contact control indication
When a treatment head is selected, LED's on the treat-
ment head light up. When the ultrasound contact is
adequate, the LED's go out, and ultrasound power is
applied.
