12. If you have filled in too much coffee powder, use any flat tool for scraping off
some coffee powder. Then tamp the remaining coffee powder again for getting
a smooth surface.
13. Thoroughly remove any excess coffee powder from the rim of the portafilter.
Otherwise, leakage between portafilter and group head could occur during
extraction and the pump cannot build up sufficient pressure.

INSTALLING THE PORTAFILTER

14. Hold the portafilter with the handle in the 8 o'clock position on the group head
and move the portafilter up for inserting it into the group head.
15. Rotate the portafilter to the right until the portafilter handle points in 90° angle to
the front of the appliance. You will notice a resistance, caused by the sealing ring
at the group head. Ensure that the portafilter is locked securely to the group head.

STARTING THE EXTRACTION

16. For filling 1 cup, place the cup on drip tray centred below the portafilter. When
extracting 2 cups, place two cups directly next to each other on the drip tray,
ensuring that the two spouts of the portafilter lie over your cups.
IMPORTANT - The extraction must be terminated manually via the espresso button.
NOTE
Avoid extraction times exceeding approx. 40 seconds. If the volume given off is
not sufficient, you should add hot water via the steam wand (see: 'Hot Water').
17. Ensure that the green espresso indicator is illuminated. Then press the espresso
button for starting the extraction.
18. The espresso button stays pressed. After a few seconds, the coffee drips from the
spouts of the portafilter. Leave the appliance operate, until the desired amount
of espresso is given off.
19. Press the espresso button again for stopping the extraction process.
20. For making Long Black (normal coffee), add the desired amount of water via the
steam wand (see: 'Hot Water').
21. If you wish to make cappuccino or latte, you can texture milk via the steam func-
tion (see: 'Texturing Milk').
