n) Starting the engine
When putting the new engine into operation, you have to observe a certain run-in time. During the break-in time, engine parts tune to one another,
whereby maximal capacity is reached and premature wear is prevented.
Thus, the run-in procedure must be carried out with the highest accuracy!
Please note the individual operating instructions of the combustion engine!
Preparations
• The carburettor is already roughly preadjusted.
• Before running the engine blow compressed air into the latter.
This way you make sure that the combustion chamber is free of dirt which could get into the engine via the spark plug seat.
• Insert a glow plug with the thermal value medium to extra cold (depending on the fuel).
• Oil the air filter slightly in order to filter out dust particles
• Insert the glow plug.
• Open the tank lid and fill in the fuel.
Start the motor
The wheels must be freely suspended in the air! Place the
model e.g. on a suitable car stand.
• Pull the starter cord several times slowly in order to suck fuel into the
carburettor.
• Do this until there are no more visible air bubbles in the fuel hose and
the fuel just about reaches the carburettor.
Attention!
Don't pull out the cable starter all the way but only to a
maximum of 3/4 of its length. Determine the length of the
pull starter by pulling it out slowly without ignition!
Never pull out the cable starter by force!
• Place the plug starter on the glow plug with the battery fully charged.
Ensure a tight fit!
• Pull the starter cord quickly until the starts. Hold the model firmly with
one hand.
However, never reach into the drive because this could
cause the engagement of the sliding clutch. Risk of injury!
• Once the motor is running, release the starter cord and remove the
plug starter.
Only leave the glow plug starter connected to the engine
briefly. Otherwise, the glow plug may burn out prematurely.
• If the pull starter can only be actuated with a lot of force after several unsuccessful start attempts, too much fuel got into the combustion chamber and the
crankcase. The engine was flooded.
Refrain from further start trials and remove the excess fuel in order to prevent damaging the cable pull starter and the engine!
For this purpose, proceed as follows:
• Carefully turn in the main nozzle needle clockwise, as far as it will go.
• Unscrew the glow plug and check its glow function
• Place a piece of cloth on the engine and pull the cable pull starter 5-6 times (3/4 of the length!): Fuel is pumped out and evaporates.
• Now insert the glow plug again.
• Unscrew the main nozzle needle with 3 rotations anticlockwise.
• Repeat the start process.
If the engine does not start after at most 10 attempts, proceed as described above or try to locate the error in the troubleshooting table!
