12. Tips & Hints
• As mentioned above, the power unit is in standby mode after it has been switched
off using the power push-button of your ATX case.
This means that it is not separated from the mains voltage! Similar to a TV set, that
can be reduced to standby mode using the remote control.
In standby mode the power unit continues to consume power. In order to save
energy, you should switch off the power unit (as the TV set) if you are not using
your computer. To this aim a multiple socket outlet, where you can attach all plug-
in power supplies, comes in handy. The power units contribute to waste of energy,
even if the connected devices have been switched off.
The same applies to other devices which can be run in standby mode, e.g. a great
number of monitors (since no actual mains switch exists), printers, scanners etc.
The power consumption of all PC components in standby mode easily amounts to
50W – i.e. 1 kWh a day! Calculated over the year the purchase cost of a multiple
socket outlet easily pays.
Prior to separating all devices from the mains voltage using the switch
on the multiple socket outlet, however, switch off all devices individu-
ally.
This is of special importance for ink-jet printers that return the print
head into parking position in order to prevent it from drying out.
If the printer is switched off via a multiple socket outlet the print head
is hindered from returning into parking position. As a result the jets
may dry out and the print head may be damaged!
• In any case, please do observe the restrictions on the maximum power consump-
tion of the individual operating voltages in paragraph 1b) of this operating manual
(also see imprint on the power unit)!
Through overloading the power unit will be destroyed! Moreover this involves the
danger of damage to all connected energy-consuming devices, e.g. motherboard,
hard disks etc.
• If your motherboard features a 4-pole ATX2.0 connection for +12V voltage, attach
the respective connector of the ATX power unit there.
The connection normally serves to better supply the switching regulators on the
motherboard that generate power/voltage for the CPU; moreover the ATX connec-
tor +12V lead is relieved.
• Use great care when laying the cables in the interior of the ATX case. To fix them,
use cable straps, for instance. By doing so you minimise sources of failure owing
to loose cables, if the computer is often transported.

Pour des raisons de sécurité et d'homologation (CE), il est interdit de modifier la con-
struction ou de transformer l'appareil soi-même.
Pour l'alimentation en courant, seule l'utilisation d'une prise de courant du secteur
public avec fil de mise à la terre de 230V/ 50Hz est autorisée.
Maintenez tout appareil fonctionnant branché sur le secteur hors de la portée des
enfants. Soyez donc particulièrement prudents quand l'appareil fonctionne en pré-
sence d'enfants.
Dans les locaux professionnels, il faut observer les instructions pour la prévention
des accidents émises par les associations professionnelles exerçant dans le domai-
ne des installations électriques et de l'outillage industriel.
L'utilisation de l'appareil dans les écoles, les centres de formation professionnelle ou
les ateliers pour handicapés ou de personnes privées, doit être surveillée par du per-
sonnel qualifié.
Le produit ne doit jamais être soumis à des températures très élevées, à de fortes
vibrations ou à une humidité très élevée.
N'utilisez le produit que dans des intérieurs secs.
Ne laissez pas traîner le matériel d'emballage (feuilles ou poches plastiques). Ils
pourraient devenir des jouets dangereux pour les enfants.

Suivant le type de l'appareil (par ex. cédérom, disque dur etc.) vous pouvez utiliser
les enfichages accessibles de l'extérieur ou les enfichages internes 3.5". Les
enfichages accessibles de l'extérieur disposent d'un couvercle en tôle qui sert au
blindage.
