12. The first flight

Prior to your first flight, you have to charge the flight battery according to the instructions in the chapter "Charging the
flight battery". You can test the remaining capacity of the transmitter batteries with a battery tester. Once you have
again briefly checked the function of the motor and the side rudder, your model is ready for its first flight.
Select an appropriate site for the operation of your model airplane. We recommend a warehouse or sports hall for your
first flights. When you are more confident with flying your model, you can also fly it in smaller rooms.

a) Testing transmission range

First carry out a range test of the remote control on the flying site.
Put the transmitter into operation first then the receiver. Ask an assistant to hold the model and check the range by
moving slowly away from the model airplane. Up to a distance of 10-12 m, the control function should work without any
problems.

b) The Start

It is generally possible to start the model alone without any real problems. However, we recommend taking an assistant
along for your first flight who can hold the model while it is started. This leaves both your hands free for controlling and
fully concentrating on the model.
The assistant holds the body of the model below the wings between thumb and index finger
Our tip:
In order to be able to identify the way your model is flying, you should stand at a little distance behind
your assistant and look exactly in the flight direction of the launched model.
Don't start in the centre of the room, but rather choose a corner for your takeoff. This will provide you with plenty of
room to fly a large circle within the room.
Now speed up gently and let the motor run at about 50-60% power.
The assistant gently pushes the model forwards and releases it in the air.
The model should now start flying in the room maintaining the same altitude. If your model starts climbing too much,
reduce the power to the motor. If it loses altitude, increase power to the motor. With the power control lever for the
motor you can thus quickly take the model to the desired flight level.
The control lever for direction control is used shortly after the start to make the first turn to avoid hitting objects (such
as a wall) or to avoid the model flying too far away. Don't try to make very tight turns to begin with, and take care to
maintain flight level while making turns.
Try and fly the model in a large circle around the room.
