4.2 Connecting measuring leads
When measuring, use only the leads supplied. Before any connec-
tion is made, check the condition of the connecting plugs or test-
lead clips and ensure that insulating materials are undamaged.
Warning!
Never exceed the maximum input values, as, in unfavourable
circumstances, this could put your life at risk!
4.3 Setting up the meter (angled position)
At the rear of its casing, the meter has a fold-out stand. This
allows the device to be set up at an angle to make it easier to
read measurements.

4.4 Initial use

4.4.1 Basic settings
To select a function, turn the operating mode knob switch to the
desired position. This switches the meter on. To switch off, set the
measurement range switch to the "OFF" position.
4.4.2 Key functions
a) MAX-HOLD
Pressing this push-button holds and displays the highest
measured value. Press MAX-HOLD again to quit the MAX
function.
b) DATA-HOLD
Pressing this push-button holds and displays the current value
being measured. Press DATA-HOLD again to quit this function.
4.4.3 Socket functions
All input and measuring sockets are colour-coded. Red or "+"
indicates positive polarity while yellow or "-" indicates negative
polarity. The two sockets to the left may only be used for
measuring diodes (semi-conductors) and resistors. The two sockets
to the right and the measuring socket are only for measuring
condensers (capacitors) and coils (inductances).

Warning!
Especially with diodes and unipolar capacitors (electrolytic
capacitors), carefully check polarity!

5. Taking Measurements

5.1 Measuring Capacitance (C)
The following is the procedure for measuring capacitance.
1. Connect the measuring leads supplied to the meter: the red
lead to the "+" socket (red) and the black lead to the "-"
socket (yellow). Switch the meter on with the knob switch.
2. Discharge each capacitor before connecting it to the meter.
Warning!
When capacitors are being short-circuited, strong discharges of
energy may occur. Danger - risk of fatal injury! Never touch the
connections of capacitors with voltages exceeding 35 V DC or
25 V AC. Particular care must be taken in spaces in which dust,
flammable gasses, vapours or liquids are or may be present ==>
risk of explosion!
Never carry out any measurement on a capacitor integrated as
part of a circuit or circuit component.
3. Set the measurement function switch to the desired measure-
ment range.
4. Connect the capacitor for measuring (discharged and voltage-
free) either with the measuring socket if suitably long connec-
tion wires of low section are available, or with the measuring
lead crocodile clips in the case of "larger" capacitors, or if the
leads are too short for the measuring socket.
In the case of unipolar capacitors (polarised), ensure correct
polarity. Never use additional leads to extend the measure-
ment leads supplied. As the resulting power capacities cannot
be compensated with the automatic zero balancing feature,
faulty measurements may be produced.
