Measuring
Do not exceed the maximum permitted input values. Do not touch circuits or parts of
circuits if there could be voltages higher than 25 V ACrms or 35 V DC present within
them! Risk of fatal injury!
Before measuring, check the connected measuring leads for damage such as cuts,
cracks or crushing. Defective measuring cables must no longer be used! Risk of
fatal injury!
During measuring, do not grip beyond the grip range markings (which you can feel)
present on the test probes.
Measuring is only permitted with a closed housing and battery compartment.
Earth measuring is only permitted on system components and installations which
are not carrying live electricity.
If "I. . ." (=overload) appears in the display, you have exceeded the measuring range.
a) Switching on the meter
The meter can be turned on using the dial switch (5). Turn the dial switch to the corresponding mea-
surement function. To switch off turn the dial switch to "OFF". Always turn the device off when it is not in
use ("OFF").
Prior to working with the measuring device, you first have to insert the enclosed bat-
teries. Insertion and changing of batteries is described in the "Cleaning and Mainte-
nance" chapter.
b) Earth measuring
Make sure that all the circuit parts, switches and installations and other objects of
measurement are disconnected from the voltage and discharged. Before you carry
out an earth measurement, carry out a voltage measurement (measurement function
"EARTH VOLTAGE").
During earth measurements, the measuring probes can develop dangerous volt-
ages. A lightning symbol in the display warns of such a voltage build-up. This volt-
age is also present in all connected electrical circuits and conductors. Do not touch
any probes, switches or switching components and installations during earth mea-
surement.
Never reach beyond the grip surface (which you can feel) of the measuring probes or
the isolated alligator clamps.
The device must be attached as follows for the following measurements. The measurement leads are of
different lengths and are different colours. They must not be swapped or mixed up.
When installing the measurement leads, make sure that the cables run next to one another and are not
tangled with one another. The leads should not touch each other. This can lead to incorrect measure-
ments.
