Shuffle play (random playback)
You can play all the titles on a CD in random order.
• To do so, press first MODE and afterwards (within 2 seconds) the +
or – key.
– The display shows the selected shuffle mode:
SHUFFLE ON - SHUFFLE OFF.
SHUFFLE ON: the tracks on the CD will be played in random
order.
SHUFFLE OFF: the shuffle function is switched off.
You can also play the titles of a programme in random order.
The shuffle function is also cleared when you press 9 or when the CD
compartment is opened.
Repeat playback
If you want to listen to a CD or a CD programme more than once
without having to start playback again, you can do so with the REPEAT
function.
• Press first MODE and afterwards (within 2 seconds) the 3 or 4 key
– The display shows the selected repeat mode:
REPEAT - REPEAT OFF.
REPEAT: The CD is repeated from the beginning till the end. The
display shows ∫.
REPEAT OFF: the repeat function is switched off.
The repeat function is cleared when the CD compartment is opened.
Recording from a CD to a cassette (CD-COPY)
Please refer to the section 'Recording from a CD to a cassette' in the
next chapter: Cassette Deck.
Selecting TAPE
– After TAPE has been selected, the cassette deck is always in the
STOP mode.
– Dolby Noise Reduction d NR remains in the setting it was in when
the unit was switched off.
– The last tape counter position is also stored.
Inserting a cassette
• Press TAPE / on the unit to open the cassette compartment.
• Insert the cassette, with the open side toward the back, into the
compartment.
• Close the compartment by pressing TAPE / again.
– The compartment can also be closed by hand.
The compartment also closes when you press 1 or 2/PAUSE. In
this case, playback begins immediately.
– Pressing any of the following keys also closes the compartment: 9 ,
S or T.
Attention: If you place a cassette with Side A up in the compartment,
you should press 2/PAUSE for playback/recording of side A and 1
for playback/-recording of side B.
Tape type
• Use for playback ferrous oxide (I/Fe)-, chromium dioxide (II/Cr)- or
metal (ME) cassette tapes. Your unit automatically adapts to the type
of tape in the cassette compartment.
• For recording you should only use ferrous oxide (I/Fe)- and
chromium dioxide (II/Cr) cassette tapes.
Noise reduction system (DOLBY NR)
Always play cassette tapes in accordance with the way they were
recorded; i.e. with or without DOLBY B NR, depending on the
recording. Only in this way is optimum playback quality guaranteed.
The advantage of a recording made with DOLBY NR compared to one
made without DOLBY NR is the reduced tape noise (see 'Technical
Data').

NR = Noise Reduction.
The Dolby noise reduction system can be selected as follows:
• Press MODE and afterwards (within 2 seconds) + or –.
The display shows DOLBY ON or DOLBY OFF.
When the Dolby noise reduction system is switched on, the p NR
LED on the unit lights up.

CD PLAYER
You can programme your own track sequence for each CD. The order
of the programmed tracks determines the order in which they are
played. Each track can be stored as often as you like.
You can enter a programme in the STOP mode or in the PLAY mode.
You can store a sequence of up to 30 tracks.
Playing titles in a specific sequence (Programme)
• Insert a CD and close the compartment.
– The CD player reads the contents of the CD. The display shows the
total playing time and the number of tracks.
• Press MEMORY .
• Press S or T to move to a specific title.
• After you have found the desired title number, store the title by
pressing MEMORY again.
– The display shows the number of the stored title.
• Repeat these steps to select other titles you would like to store.
– You can store a sequence of up to 30 tracks. As soon as you select
track 4 is programmed
the 31th title, 'FULL' appears in the display.

Viewing the titles of a programme
• Hold (in STOP mode) MEMORY pressed down for at least 2 seconds.
– The currently programmed titles are then displayed one after another.
Playing a programme
• Press 2/PAUSE.
– Playback begins with the first title of the programme.
– After all the titles have been played, the display shows the total
number of tracks and the total playing time of the programme.
Clearing titles from a programme
• Press MEMORY.
• Press the S or T key to go to the title you want to clear.
• When the number of the title you wish to clear appears in the
display, press CANCEL.
• To clear all the titles of a programme, stop the CD player and press
CANCEL for more than 1 second.
– 'PRG ERASED' appears in the display.
Note: Opening and closing the CD compartment also clears the programme.
You can only clear all the titles when the CD player is stopped.
TAPE DECK
Selecting the reverse mode
• Press first MODE and afterwards (within 2 seconds) the 3 or 4 key
– The display shows the selected repeat mode:
REVERSE OFF å ™ AUTOREVERSE ∂ ™ CONT. PLAY ∫.
REVERSE OFF:the tape stops at the end of each side.
The display shows å.
AUTOREVERSE:playback (+ recording) of both cassette sides; after
which the tape stops at the end of the second side.
The display shows ∂.
CONT. PLAY: continuous playback of both cassette sides.
The display shows ∫.
Playback
• The playback function 1 2 can only be started if there is a cassette
in the cassette compartment.
– If you press 1, 2/PAUSE , S or T and the compartment is
empty, NO CASS appears on the display for 1.5 seconds, and then
the cassette compartment opens.
• If desired switch on the Dolby Noise Reduction system as described
before (with MODE and afterwards + or –).
Playback of one cassette side
• Select the reverse mode REVERSE OFF å as described above..
• Press 1 or 2/PAUSE, to start playback in the desired direction.
– The display shows the sound level of the recorded music.
• If you want to briefly interrupt playback, simply press 2 PAUSE.
– The ; indication on the display lights up.
• If you want to continue playback, press 1 or 2/PAUSE again.
– The ; indication goes out.
– The deck plays one cassette side and stops automatically at the
end.
• If you want to stop the tape before it reaches the end, simply press
9 (STOP).
Playback of both sides
• If you want to play both sides of the cassette, proceed as
described under 'Playback of one cassette side' but select the
reverse mode AUTOREVERSE ∂.
– The deck plays both cassette sides and the tape stops automatically
at the end of the second side.
Continuous playback
• If you want to play both sides of the cassette continuously, proceed
as described under 'Playback of one cassette side' but select the
reverse mode CONT. PLAY ∫.
– The deck plays both cassette sides continuously.
