RDS Radio Data System
Your unit is capable of receiving and evaluating RDS information which
is broadcast along with the normal broadcast signal. The channel
name is displayed and automatically stored in the unit´s memory,
overwriting names previously stored.
RDS TIME: Some RDS stations broadcast the 'RDS-TIME' information.
• You can call up the time display by pressing the
'RDS-TIME' display appears. The time display is updated every
minute. The accuracy of the time depends on the broadcasted
information.
Note: You will have to be tuned to the same RDS station for a few
minutes before you are able to call up the time.
RADIOTEXT : Some RDS stations broadcast RADIOTEXT, which is
additional information on the station and programme being broadcast.
RADIOTEXT information appears as "running" text in the display.
RADIOTEXT is transmitted character-by-character by the radio station.
As a result of that it may take some time until the entire text has been
completely received.
• RADIOTEXT is called up by continuously pressing the
running text of the RADIOTEXT signal can be seen.
– If a station does not broadcast RADIOTEXT, the unit switches
automatically to the frequency indication.
Switching displays
• Pressing
briefly switches the display (when available) between
station name (RDS or one you have entered), RDS-TIME,
RADIOTEXT (with RDS stations), and frequency.
– When the station name is displayed, only the memory location
number is displayed to the left of the name.
Language selection
You can call up the programme type display (see on the right) in the
following languages: german, english and french.
• Keep the 2 key on the unit pressed while you turn on Turnit with the
POWER knob.
– The current language appears in the display.
• By using the + and – keys you can call up the desired language:
ENGLISH, DEUTSCH, FRANCAIS.
• Store your selection and leave the mode by pressing the 9 key.
Warning
CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT means that the laser´s construction makes it
inherently safe so that the legally prescribed maximum permissible
radiation values can never be exceeded.
CAUTION: Using any equipment or devices other than those described
and specified in these operating instructions, or tampering with the unit
in any way, can result in dangerous exposure to radiation.

General information

• To remove a CD from its case, hold it on its
outside edge with the index finger and thumb.
• Do not touch the surface of a CD with your fingers.
• Always store a CD in its case when it is not being used.
• Place a CD in its case with the label facing up and press down
lightly.
• Do not leave CD's for any length of time in direct sunlight or other
places where high temperatures may occur, such as in the vicinity
of heating apparatus. Do not expose the CD's to humidity or rain.
Selecting CD
• If you select CD and have not inserted a CD, 'NO DISC' appears
on the display.
– After the CD has been selected, it is always in the STOP mode.
Inserting a CD
• Press the DISC / button on the unit.
– The display will indicate 'OPEN'.
• Place a CD into the compartment with the printed side up.
• Place CD singles (8 cm) in the depression in the compartment.
• Press the DISC / button to close the compartment.
– The CD compartment can also be closed by hand.
– The display shows 'CLOSE'.
– After the compartment has closed, the unit reads the contents of the
CD. During this time the display shows 'READING'.
– After a few seconds, the total playing time and the number of titles
on the CD appear on the display.

Programme type (PTY)
RDS allows you to select memorized FM stations according to
programme type. More and more stations are codifying their
programme type allowing efficient search with the PTY function. The
transmitted code is, however, the responsibility of the radio station.
• By using first the 9 PTY and afterwards (within 2 seconds) the + /
– keys , you can call up the programme types one after another.
– After 2 seconds the unit starts scanning the memorized stations to
find a station broadcasting the required programme type. As soon
as such a station is found it is tuned to.
– The display briefly shows the programme type and then the name
of the memorized stations that broadcast this programme type.
– If there are no memorized stations broadcasting a given
programme type, the display briefly shows: 'NONE'.
– If you use the PTY function when no stations have been
programmed (yet), the display briefly shows 'FREE'.
– There are 30 program categories defined: News, Current affairs,
Information, Sports, Education, Drama, Culture, Science, Varied,
Pop music , Rock music, M.O.R. music (middle-of-the-road music,
easy listening), Light classical, Serious classical, Other music,
Weather, Finance, Children's programs, Social affairs, Religion,
Phone in, Travel, Leisure, Jazz, Country, National, Oldies, Folk,
Documentary, Others.
Assigning station names
Stations which do not transmit the RDS code can be assigned any
name of your choice.
MHz
• Keep
pressed until the first character on the display starts flashing.
• With + and – you can move the cursor in the desired direction. You
can enter up to 8 characters.
• With 3 and 4, you can move forward and backward through the
alphabet, the numbers 0-9 and the space key.
• When you are ready to conclude an input and exit the input mode
to store a name, press
or MEMORY.
Note: If you attempt to assign a name to a station which transmits the
RDS code, RDS-DATA appears in the display, indicating that a name
cannot be assigned.
Deleting a name
• If you press CANCEL when the input mode is selected, the previous
name is deleted and the cursor jumps to the first (left) position.
Playing an entire CD (from STOP)
• Press 2/PAUSE.
– Playback begins with the first title.
– The display shows the current title number and the title´s elapsed
playing time.
– After all the titles have played, the CD player stops, and the total
number of titles as well as the total playing time appear in the
display.
• To stop playback, press 9.
• To interrupt playback, press 2/PAUSE again.
• To resume playback, press 2/PAUSE once more.
Note: You can also simply press the 2/PAUSE key instead of the
DISC / button after inserting a CD.
The CD compartment closes, and playback begins.
Selecting a different title during playback
• Press repeatedly on S or T until the desired title number
appears in the display.
– After a brief time, the title is played.
Repeating a title (restart)
• Briefly press 1.
– The title is repeated from the beginning.
Search function
• Hold S or T pressed down during playback to reach the
desired point on the CD. As soon as you release the key,
playback resumes.
Note: This function can be described as "audibly" searching for a title.
During the search, volume is reduced and returns to its normal level as
soon as the key is released.
