Start up the measuring instrument as described in chapter 3.2.
The instrument is then in the standby mode.
Set the desired temperature with the temperature preselector switch
according to the table "Temp./Set" (e.g. "190" for a measuring chamber
temperature of 25°C).
Note: If the actual temperature deviates from the desired setpoint for a
long time, it may be corrected at any time with the temperature preselector
switch (Note: the control tolerance is ±0.2°C).

Open the instrument cover.
Rotate the measuring head anti-clockwise as far as the stop, and lift
off.
Fill the sample bowl with the material to be measured. The sample bowl
must be completely dry (rub dry with a tissue paper if necessary)!
Important! Fill the sample bowls supplied to approximately 2/3 with the
material sample to be measured. Do not overfill with the material sample,
and bulkier material to be measured must be suitably crushed. Material
supplied in several layers, and with an outer coating, must also be
crushed (e.g. confectionery products). Prolonged hand contact with the
material to be measured must be avoided (falsification of measured
value!).
Insert the sample bowl containing the material to be measured into
the measuring chamber.
Attach the measuring head and rotate clockwise as far as the stop.
Tip: to gain time, whilst measuring a sample, place the next sample
bowl on top of the measuring head to reach thermal equilibrium. In order
to avoid any influence on the measurement, do not place chilled or very
hot samples. Time may vary, depending on the actual temperature of
the sample. Typically, a sample at around room temperature (18-28°C)
should need about 5 minutes.

In the standby mode the Novasina AW SPRINT continuously measures the
water activity (aw) and the temperature (°C) and indicates the current
measured values on the display.

Press the <Start> key until the second beeper tone is heard and the
yellow LED (Analyzing) flashes. The analysis mode is activated.
The elapsed measuring time, the aw value and the measuring cham-
ber temperature appear on the display.
As soon as the measured value is stable, a beeper sounds, the green
LED (OK) lights up and the display opposite appears. The measured aw
value can now be read off.
