Description of function
The Novasina AW SPRINT is an instrument designed for temperature-
controlled measurement of water activity (aw-value). It can also be used as
a temperature-controlled chamber for microbiological growth analysis.
Because the instrument is designed to operate continuously, measure-
ments extending over several days or weeks are possible without any
problem.
The temperature of the measuring chamber is regulated accurately to the
set value by the temperature controller. Maximum hunting is less than
0.2 °C.
The desired temperature (range: 0...50 °C) is set with the temperature
preselector switch according to the table on the front panel.
Note: The marked set value "190" corresponds to the often used temper-
ature of 25 °C for aw-measurement.
The measuring chamber combined with the temperature regulator forms
a mini climatic chamber. The measuring head is equipped with a Novasina
moisture and temperature sensor.
The sensor is used for measuring equilibrium humidity and temperature of
quantitatively small material samples, like powders, granulates, pastes
and liquids. Larger samples must be suitably crushed.
To avoid accidental damage to the sensor, be sure to follow the directions
given in section 4.1.
The measuring converter is converting the signals from the sensor. The
measured values of relative humidity (water activity) and temperature can
be read directly on the LC-Display on the front panel.
The measured data can be recorded with a printer, via the built-in RS232
interface, or transferred to a PC. Moreover, two analogue outputs are
available on the back of the instrument.
