12. Functional test

Before you mount the outdoor sensor at its final location, perform a function test.
• Rotate the outdoor sensor back and forth several times so that the water see-saw moves inside the rainfall gauge.
If working correctly, the weather station should not display 0.0.
• Rotate the anemometer manually or by using a fan running at a constant speed. If working correctly, the weather
station should not display 0.0.
• Place the weather station and the outdoor sensor in the same space in order to check the temperature and the
humidity. Wait for 30 minutes until the values have stabilized. The temperature difference between the weather
station and the outdoor sensor should not exceed 2 °C (4 °F). The humidity difference between the weather station
and the outdoor sensor should not exceed 10 %.

13. Installation

a) Select a location
When choosing a location for the outdoor sensor, please observe the following:
• The outdoor sensor should be cleaned at least once a year. Make sure that the outdoor sensor is easily accessible
even after mounting.
• Do not mount the outdoor sensor under or in the proximity of trees and bushes because dropping foliage may clog
the opening in the rain gauge.
• The outdoor sensor should not be installed near tall buildings. Direct proximity to high buildings leads to inaccurate
measured values.
• The range between the outdoor sensor and the weather station may not exceed 150 m in the open (a direct line of
sight between transmitter/receiver).
The range that can actually be achieved, however, is lower due to the presence of walls, furniture, windows or
plants between the weather station and the outdoor sensor.
Other interference that strongly reduces range is proximity to electrical/electronic devices, cables or metal parts.
Another problem are reinforced concrete ceilings, metal-vaporised isolating glass windows or other devices on the
same transmission frequency.

b) Outdoor sensor

• The side with the anemometer and the wind vane should face north.
The outdoor sensor may also face south. Please refer to the chapter "Operation" for more.
• Make sure that the outdoor sensor is as even as possible. Use the spirit level at the top for assistance.
• When mounting, observe a minimum distance of 1.5 m to the ground.
