When planning and constructing infiltration systems (trenches) with RAUSIKKO boxes,
the following must be observed:
To ensure the long-term functionality of the infiltration systems, sufficient accessi-
bility must be provided for maintenance work.
Boxes, pipes, shafts, gravel, or other infiltration material must be kept free of all
contaminants.
Construction site runoff, which is typically muddy, must not enter the infiltration
systems; if necessary, suitable site drainage must be provided.
Before and during the construction of an infiltration system, the area must be main-
tained, in addition the subsoil in the infiltration area must not be compacted by static
or dynamic loads (e.g., use as a storage area or traffic over it).
All necessary protective measures must be followed.
Effective protective measures include:
▪ Barrier fencing
▪ Construction site drainage
▪ Coordination with utility companies, plus additional instructions and information
for clients, construction companies, and suppliers via signage or leaflets
▪ Pre-cleaning measures
▪ Stone embankments, paving, or planting schemes in the inlet area of troughs to
prevent scouring of the trough inlet
