Normal operation of this device may require the use of chemicals or samples that are biologically
unsafe.
• Observe all cautionary information printed on the original solution containers and safety data
sheets prior to their use.
• Dispose of all consumed solutions in accordance with the local and national regulations and laws.
• Select the type of protective equipment suitable to the concentration and quantity of the dangerous
material being used.
If the wiper interval is correctly set for the application and the wiper profile is replaced regularly, more
cleaning of the measuring path is typically not necessary.
To decrease or remove measurement deviations, examine and clean the windows as follows:
1. Go to the device menu as follows:
• SC200 and SC1000 Controllers—Go to the main menu, then select Sensor setup. If
applicable, select the sensor.
• SC4500 Controller and Claros interface—Select the tile of the device, then select Device
menu.
2. Select Maintenance.
3. Set the outputs on Hold.
4. Remove the probe from the tank or flow through unit.
5. Rinse the probe with clean water.
6. Apply tape to cover the hole of the measuring path. Refer to the illustrated steps in
on page 21.
7. Go to the Maintenance menu, then select Wiper test.
8. Remove the wiper blade to keep dirt out of the DI water in the steps that follow.
9. Rinse the measuring path two times with DI water.
10. Fill the measuring path with DI water.
11. Go to the signals menu as follows:
• SC200 and SC1000 Controllers—Go back to the sensor menu, then select DIAG/TEST >
Signals.
• SC4500 Controller and Claros interface—Go back to the sensor menu, then select
Diagnostics/Test > Signals.
12. If DEXT1 is more than 15 mE, rinse the measuring path with DI water again.
13. If DEXT1 is 15 mE or less, install the wiper blade and go to 19.
14. If DEXT1 is still more than 15 mE, do the steps that follow:
a. Install the wiper blade.
b. Fill the measuring path with hydrochloric acid (HCl 25%, if available, otherwise 5%).
c. Move the the wiper blade approximately 10 times to clean the measuring path. Select Wiper
test, then move from B to A and back. Keep the path filled with hydrochloric acid.
d. Rinse the probe with clean water.
15. Do steps

to
10
again.
16. If DEXT1 is 15 mE or less (ideally below 5-10 mE), the cleaning has been successfully
completed. Install the wiper blade and go to step 19.
17. If DEXT1 is more than 15 mE, do steps
18. If DEXT1 is still more than 15 mE, field service needs to manually clean the window and
investigate further.
19. Compare the probe reading to a lab measurement to identify if the probe readings are better.
