SECTION
8) ENVELOPE
This section controls the attack and
release ('sustain') of the string sounds.
Each note is articulated separately for a
more realistic effect.
ATTACK:
Attack time determines how
long it takes for a given note to rise to
its maximum level once it is played.
Shorter attack times produce percussive
sounds, while longer attack times are
smoother and more legato.
As the ATTACK
knob is turned clock-
wise
(towards
10),
the
attack
time
becomes longer. When the Attack knob
is pulled out, attack time is controlled
by a combination
of the ATTACK
setting,
KEY
DYNAM ICS, and how
hard you play.
RE LEASE:
The release time determines
how long it takes for a note to die away
once you release the key. It is often re-
ferred
to as 'sustain'.
As the RELEASE knob is turned clock-
wise (towards 10), notes will take longer
to die away (with the damper pedal up).
When the damper pedal is depressed, the
