3 Intended Use
The Bestmax Water Optimisation Systems
(BWS) are used for the decarbonisation (reduc-
tion of the scale content) of cold drinking water.
Scale deposits in coffee machines, hot drinks
machines, cold drinks machines, combi steam-
ers, humidifiers, etc. can thus be prevented.
5 Preconditions for Installation – Important Information
Observe local installation regulations, gener-
al guidelines, general hygiene conditions and
technical data.
The drinking water to be taken in must al-
ways meet the requirements of the local
Drinking Water Ordinance.
To install the filter choose a location that en-
ables simple connection to the water mains.
The Bestmax Water Optimisation System
must not be upstream of a water softener (if
necessary, contact water+more by BWT).
Only cold water in drinking water quality may
be used as feed water.
Feed water of unknown microbiological qual-
ity must never be used without adequate
disinfection.
No galvanised pipes or copper pipes may be
installed between the Bestmax Water Opti-

misation System and the equipment.
The maximum operating pressure of the Bestmax Water Optimisation Sys-
tem must not be exceeded. Warning! If the intake pressure is greater than 8 bar
a pressure reducer must be installed upstream of the Bestmax Water Optimisation
System. The intake pressure is then set to 4 bar.
A minimum intake pressure of 2 bar is necessary for the function of the
water filter. In the case of fluctuations in pressure and pressure shocks, the sum
of pressure shock and idling pressure must not exceed the nominal pressure of 8
bar, with the positive pressure shock not exceeding 2 bar and the negative pres-
sure shock must not fall below 50% of the settling flow pressure (see DIN 1988
Part 2.2.4). With longer breaks in operation (weekend, holiday ...) switch off the
tap on the BWS intake. Observe DIN 1988 and local regulations for connection
and operation. The recommended installed position is vertical; horizontal opera-
tion is also possible. When installing a new or replacement filter cartridge, all parts
must be examined for completeness and transport damage. Faulty parts must be
replaced. If the above conditions are not observed, the technical function cannot
be guaranteed.
4 Function
With Bestmax Water Optimisation Systems, cal-
cium and magnesium ions are removed from
drinking water using a special ion exchanger
and they are exchange with hydrogen ions. In
this connection, free carbonic acids are formed
and the pH value in the weak acid range are
displaced. Filtration over activated carbon re-
moves any bad taste and odour from the wa-
ter as well as organic components and chlo-
rine. The concentrations of heavy metals (e.g.
lead, copper, cadmium) are substantially re-
duced. Particles with a typical size of > 25 µm
are trapped.
In the case of maintenance work on the
drinking water supply, the Bestmax Water
Optimisation System must be disconnected
from the water supply. The water pipe must
be rinsed thoroughly before it is connect-
ed again.
Prior to installing the Bestmax Water Optimi-
sation System, the appliance to be protected
(e.g. coffee machine, drinks machine, etc.)
must be free of scale.
The installation location must be frost-resist-
ant and protected against direct sunlight.
Chemicals, solvents and vapours must not
come into contact with the filter.
