catch harness or other components of the fall
arrest system. If the lanyard is supplied without a
karabiner and without energy absorber, observe
the following: A lanyard without energy absorber
acc. to EN 355 must not be used in a fall arrest
system, connectors (karabiners) for lanyards acc.
to EN 354 must conform to EN 362.
Additionally, the product has been tested
successfully for stability of its edges to
CNB/P/11.074:2015 (RfU 074). The lanyard has
been tested successfully for horizontal application
during a fall across a 90° burr-free steel edge,
radius 0.5 mm (rolled steel profiles, rounded rail-
ing or wooden beams). Nonetheless, watch out for
the following hazards where persons could fall
across an edge. If the hazard assessment per-
formed prior to the work shows that a fall load
might occur across an edge, be sure to arrange for
suitable precautions/rescue operations and
include these in training:
- check whether fall across the edge may be pre-
vented somehow
- install an edge protector
Length adjustment must be made in a safe loca-
tion that does not present a fall hazard.
To avoid a strangulation hazard, be sure to never
hold the head between two parallel lanyard
branches or sling sections.
When using a lanyard (fall arrest system), be sure
that the lanyard including its energy absorber and
its connectors does not exceed a maximum length
of 2.0 m. Before using a fall arrest system, ensure
that the required free space below the user
(including on-site construction elements) is availa-
ble: 2 x length of the lanyard + max. tearing stroke
of the energy absorber (1.75 m) + 1 m safety
reserve. If the lanyard is used with an anchor
device to EN 795, class C, the deflection of the
horizontal, movable guide must likewise be consid-
ered when determining the clear height below the
user.
Lanyards without energy absorber are used as
fasteners for positioning at a workplace. The
motion range of the user must be limited so that
he cannot reach an area entailing a fall hazard!
Connectors for positioning harnesses to EN 358
must be fastened to the lateral support eyes or the
central front support eye of the positioning
harness to EN 358. Adjustment and arrangement
of the support rope must ensure that a fall is not
possible. Keep the lanyard for a positioning
harness well tensioned; the attachment point must
be on one level with the hip or higher and the free
fall distance must be limited to max. 0.5 m. The
diameter of the component around which the
support rope is wound, must not be less than
75 mm. Be very cautious when working with a
support rope and sharp-edged tools (knife, saw,
chain saw). Even support ropes with encased steel
core can be cut in two by a chain saw. Do not
allow such work if damage to the lanyard cannot
be excluded.
Attention! Lanyards for positioning harnesses to
EN 358 are not suitable for fall arrest; be sure to
assess whether a fall arrest system may be needed.
An anchor device to/similar to EN 795 B must not
be used in a fall arrest system without an energy
