As specified in the EN 363 «Fall Arrest Systems» standard, the work positioning lanyard is a system
providing support in the workplace. This allows the user to work supported or suspended by pre-
venting free fall.
In workplace support systems, the user normally relies on his equipment to support him. It is the-
refore essential to take particular account of the need for a backup, such as a fall arrest system or
collective protection equipment (e.g. safety nets, airbags). Before each use, ensure there is sufficient
fall clearance beneath the user to prevent a collision with the floor or any obstructions. See figure 1.
It must only be used with a fall arrest harness compliant with the EN 361 standard, as part of a fall
arrest system. See figure 2.
The anchoring device must comply with the EN 795 standard. Connectors must comply with the EN
362 standard (see Appendix 2).
IF THE PRODUCT IS SOLD OUTSIDE THE FIRST COUNTRY OF DESTINATION, FOR THE SAFETY OF THE
USER, THE DEALER MUST ENSURE THAT THE PRODUCT IS COMPLIANT WITH THE LAWS APPLICABLE
IN THAT COUNTRY AND PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PRODUCT IN THE APPROPRIATE LAN-
GUAGE, COVERING ALL THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE EN 358 STANDARD AND APPLICABLE LAW.
2 - TRAINING
The use of our products is restricted to competent persons having undergone appropriate training
(provided by an authorised person or organisation) or under the supervision of a competent superior.
The completion of this training must be recorded by the issue of a course certificate showing the date,
location, name and company of the trainer or training organisation, the full name of the user, etc.
Make yourself familiar with this PPE and ensure you have fully understood how it works (see para-
graph 5).
Anyone performing work at height should be in good physical condition. Certain medical conditions
(medication, cardiovascular condition, etc.) may impair the safety of the user during normal use of the
PPE. If in doubt, check with your doctor.
3 - COMPLIANCE WITH THE EUROPEAN STANDARD EN 358 : 1999
The lanyard (compliant with EN 358) should be used with a harness belt or safety belt also compliant
with the EN 358 standard.
The lanyard should not be used to stop falls. It may be necessary to supplement support systems with
collective or individual fall arrest systems (fall arrest systems compliant with EN 363). See figure 3.
4 - VERIFICATION
If your product is damaged, please consult the manufacturer or its representative. If you have any
doubts regarding the safety of a product or if the product has been used to arrest a fall, it is essential
for your safety that the PPE be withdrawn from service and returned to the manufacturer or an autho-
rised service centre for inspection or disposal.
Before further use of this PPE, it is your responsibility to obtain a written certificate from your repairer
authorising you to resume using the product. Otherwise, we assume no liability in the event of the
product malfunctioning.
Before each use, a thorough visual examination must be conducted to ensure the integrity of the
lanyard and the integrity of any other equipment that may be associated with it (harness-belt, ancho-
rages, connecting devices, etc.) and also to ensure that an appropriate rescue procedure is in place.
See figure 4.
