Compensate for smaller deviations with the "Align" function as follows:

Display shows:
True bearing:
In addition to alignment of the probe, this function serves to set the local variation for your area. The angle
for the variation can be found on the chart. Setting of the variation makes chart work easier and, when deviation
compensation has been performed, the display shows the true course.
Automatic deviation compensation (AutoDev)
All iron masses on board a vessel have a more or less strong intrinsic magnetism, which exerts an influence
on the compass probe. It is necessary to compensate for the effects of this influence.
Whereas with conventional fluid compasses an authorised specialist has to be called in to perform this work,
the VDO LOGIC PILOT with its automatic deviation compensation allows you to do it simply and reliably
yourself.
The automatic deviation compensation function is performed while sailing a course of two full circles in a
calm sea and well away from harbour facilities and sources of magnetic interference (e.g. steel bridges, sheet
pilings or other vessels). The diameter of the circle must be five to six times the length of the vessel. The
speed should be around 2 knots. The circle is to be sailed in the clockwise direction.
The display does not show a valid course during the compensation process.
Start sailing in the circle and start the compensation process by pressing the ENTER key.
There is initially an indication that the circle is to be sailed in the clockwise (CW) direction.
Shortly after the start, the display shows "Running".
Continue sailing in the circle until "Dev ok" is displayed, and then confirm the compensation by pressing the
ENTER key.
If automatic compensation is not complete even after more than 3 circles (with the display still showing
"Running"), the circles have not been properly sailed or the vessel's own magnetic field is too strong at the
location where the compass probe is installed for compensation to be performed. In such a case, a different
location has to be found for the compass probe.
