Validation
Validation is used to identify specific or individual device
types with which a data exchange should take place.
The following settings are possible:
– n : Validation is disabled and every device is
O validatiOn
accepted.
– c : Manufacturer ID and device ID are

compared with the module data and IO-Link
communication is only started if they match. The
manufacturer ID and device ID are specified as a
decimal value.
– i : Manufacturer ID, device ID and serial number

decimal value, the serial number is entered as an ASCII
code.
Parameter server
Specific device configurations of the connected IO-Link
devices can be loaded into the IO-Link master through the
parameter server. This means automatic reconfiguration
can be implemented if a device is replaced.
The following settings are possible:
– d : Data storage function disabled, stored data

– : Data storage function disabled, stored data is

– r : Only a download of the parameter data to the
eStOre
IO-Link device is performed. As soon as the stored
parameter data in the port's parameter server differs
from the connected IO-Link device, a download is
performed. Only exception: The parameter server is
empty. In this case, an upload is implemented once.
– b / : An upload/download of the parameter
ackup reStOre
data to the IO-Link device is performed. As soon as the
stored parameter data in the port's parameter server
differs from the connected IO-Link device and there are
no upload requests from the IO-Link device, a
download is performed. As soon as a device has
requested an upload (Upload flag set) or if no data is
saved in the master port (e.g. after deletion of the data
or before the first data upload), the master starts
uploading the parameter data from the device.
After uploading the parameter data, the vendor ID
and device ID of the connected IO-Link device
remain stored until the data records are deleted.
Validation takes place when the connected IO-Link
device is started up. Thus, only an IO-Link device
of the same type can be used for data storage.

Parameter setting options
IO-Link devices can be parameterized via the web server,
function modules and the Balluff Engineering Tool.
When using the device tool and the web server, the
majority of the required parameters are copied from the
software.
The web server and Balluff Engineering Tool access the
module directly. With the function module, a telegram is
composed, which is transferred to the master via acyclic
services.
