9. OPERATING THE MACHINE

9.1. Preparing the machine

The switched-off machine is put into operation as follows:
Preparing a machine in water tank or permanent water supply modes
1. In water tank mode: Fill the water tank or make sure to check there is enough water in the tank.
In permenant water supply mode: Make sure that there is constant water pressure via the main water
supply.
2. Now switch the machine on (switch to on).
3. Wait until the pressure gauge shows a value of approx. 1.0-1.25 bar (this applies to the factory settings).
4. When heating up/switching on the cold machine, "CLd" (cold) is shown on the display until the required
temperature at the boiler and brew group has been reached. Because of an intelligent temperature
control, the machine reaches its operating temperature in only 25 minutes and "CLd" on the display will
disappear.
You can then start making espresso and the display will show the boiler or brew temperature depending
on the selected mode.
During the heating time, the machine can be operated at any time, but we recommend waiting until "CLd"
has disappeared from the display.
5. Before making your first coffee or extracting your first shot, briefly lock in the portafilter and extract a
small amount of hot water so that your portafilter is properly heated and also at the optimal temperature.
It is best to keep the portafilter locked into the brew head so that it stays warm at all times.

9.2. Manually adjusting the brewing pressure

Important
If necessary, the brewing pressure of the machine can be adjusted or changed manually via
an adjusting screw on the underside of the machine without having to open the machine.
This adjustment should only be carried out by qualified personnel.

9.3. Preparing coffee

Use the portafilter with 1 spout and the corresponding filter (1 cup) for the preparation of 1 cup. Use the
portafilter with 2 spouts and the big filter (2 cups) for the preparation of 2 cups. Make sure that the filter is
firmly locked into the portafilter.
Fill the ground coffee with the respective grind for espresso into the filter. (The marking inside the filter
basket can help you find the right amount of coffee.)
Compress the ground coffee with the tamper. A tamping pressure of approx. 20 kg is recommended. Thus
the ground coffee is evenly compacted. Clamp the portafilter firmly into the brew group
Place the cup under the spout of the portafilter (for the preparation of 2 cups, put 1 cup under each spout).
Now move the brew lever into the upper position to start the brewing process. The timer on the PID-display
indicates the brewing time in seconds. In general, the brewing time should be around 20 to 25 seconds. The
volume for a single espresso is circa 20 to 30 ml. Place the brew lever back into the original position once
the desired volume is reached.
The remaining pressure/water will be discharged into the drip tray by the lower part of the brew groupe
cylinder.
The pump pressure can be read on the pump pressure gauge. After the brewing process, the gauge may still
indicate pressure. Only when preparing another cup of coffee will the build-up of pressure be visible again.
Caution!
If the group lever is not moved into the lower position properly, hot water and grounds will
squirt out of the brew group when taking out the portafilter. This may cause injury.
Only freshly ground coffee allows for an optimal coffee result. Therefore, use a professional
coffee grinder. In our assortment you will find several professional and compact coffee
grinders.
