Notes
1. do not use the instrument to measure shiny or polished metal
surfaces (stainless steel, aluminium, etc.).see emissivity
The unit cannot measure through transparent surfaces such as
glass. Instead, the surface temperature of the glass is measured.
3. steam, dust, smoke etc. can prevent accurate measurements
as they obstruct the optics of the device. Measuring steam, dust
or smoke is not possible with an IR meter because the measuring
surface is missing!
Emissivity
Emissivity is a term that describes the energy-emitting properties
of materials.
Most (90% of typical applications) organic materials and painted
or oxidised surfaces have an emissivity of 0.95 (preset in the unit).
Measuring shiny or polished metal surfaces will produce
inaccurate readings. To compensate for this, cover the surface to
be measured with masking tape or black paint. Wait until the tape
has reached the same temperature as the material underneath.
Measure the temperature of the tape or painted surface.
