Part 1.
A. Basic tools you will need.
1.
Modelling knife - preferably with a selection of insertable blades.
2.
Razor saw.
3.
Fine nose pliers and wire cutters.
4.
Small tack hammer.
5.
A pin vice with range of drill bits up to 2mm.
6.
A David plane is a useful tool for planing the tops of bulwarks to shape and for tapering of dowels
for masts and yards etc.
7.
A set of differently shaped needle files. B. Adhesives.
B. Adhesive
The main adhesive you will need is wood glue, preferably white P.V.A. Resin W for all wood to wood
assemblies. For dissimilar materials super glue is the ideal glue as long as you make sure the parts are
aligned correctly before sticking them together.
C. Abrasive papers.
You will need a selection of abrasive paper and a sanding block. Glass paper is the most common used,
ranging from coarse grade to fine for the final finish.
D. Paint and varnish.
The only paint you will need will be a matt or satin black for the anchors, carronade, chimney, cannon balls
and stanchions. You will also need a tin of clear matt wood varnish and a tin of wood dye, preferably walnut
for the masts and yards.
Before you start sticking any of the pieces together, study the plans and instructions thoroughly to avoid
any constructional mistakes later on. During the construction, refer to the parts list in the German
translation of the instruction manual, these give you the part numbers, the correct cutting sizes and the
rigging sizes.
