medi Epico
active
Intended purpose
The medi Epico active is an elbow
stabilisation brace with limitation of
flexion and/or extension.
Indications
All indications that require
reinforcement of the physiological
stabilisation of the elbow joint and/or
stress relief of the joint, such as:
• Conservative implementation for early
functional treatment following elbow
dislocation which only impacts the
ligaments
• For medial and/or lateral elbow
instability
• Post-operative implementation for
osteochondrosis dissecans
• Post-operative implementation
following operative cartilage
replacement therapy
• Post-operative implementation
following operative ligament suturing
or ligament reconstruction
Contra-indications
• Concomitant neurological damage, e.g.
ulnar nerve
• Compartment syndrome
Risks / Side Effects
If the aids are too tight, this can cause
local pressure sores or constriction of
blood vessels or nerves. Therefore you
should consult the doctor treating you
before you use it if the following
circumstances apply to you:
• Condition or injury of the skin in the
area of application, particularly with
infectious indications (excessive heat,
swelling or reddening)
• Paraesthesia and circulatory disorders
(e.g. as seen in diabetes, varicose veins)
• Lymph drainage disorders – equally,
swelling of soft tissue adjacent to the
area of application which is not related
to a condition
When wearing snug-fitting aids, this can
result in localised skin inflammation or
irritation that is due to mechanical
irritation of the skin (particularly in
conjunction with sweating) or due to the
composition of the material.
Intended patient groups
Healthcare professionals should provide
care to the adults and children, applying
the available information on the
measurements/sizes and necessary
functions/indications and in line with
the information provided by the
manufacturer, and acting under their
own responsibility.
Setting the restrictions for flexion
and extension and adjustment
(can only be carried out by an
orthopaedic technician)
Extension restriction wedges, E
(stretch restriction): 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°
Flexion restriction wedges, F
(bend restriction): 45°, 60°, 75°, 90°
• Your support comes with 20°
extension wedges pre-installed.
• To change the wedges, pull the joint
splints at the top end (strap 2) out of
the joint pocket on the side (fig. 1).
• Insert the flexion wedges (F) and then
the desired extension wedges (E) into
the side of the articulated joints and
fasten them with the attached screws
(fig. 2).
• The joint splints on the side are made
of aluminium and can be positioned
crosswise if required.
• Place the joint splints, narrow side
first, back in the joint pockets and
ensure that the straps for the pockets
enclose the upper end of the
articulated joint (fig. 3).
