wing a warning to continue the installation procedure. As this
warning is irrelevant in case of HO870 driver software, click
„Continue Anyway".
8. Please click "Finish" to complete the installation.
9. After successful installation the "Found New Hardware Wi-
zard" opens again, in order to install the USB Serial Port. Pro-
ceed as described under the points 1 to 8. After the installation
is complete, you can see the virtual COM Port in your Windows
Device Manager. Set the COM port settings according to the
transmission data of the measuring instrument(see manual
of the instrument).

Command reference

A command consists of 4 characters and parameters (variab-
les), if there are several parameters they will be separated by
commas. Parameters in {} may be used and read as options
while the parameters not in parentheses are being requested
or read. Commands which may be requested are designated by
(?). Commands which may be only requested are designated by ?
Commands which will possibly not be requested are designated
by Nr. ?. Do not transmit () or {} as part of a command.
Some variables must be given as whole numbers, some in fl oa-
ting point format, some in exponential format. The variables i
and j are normally whole numbers while x is a number.

MEASUREMENT SETUP COMMANDS

$STL (?) {i} The $STL command sets the time in the HM8118
to i ms, if i is between 1 and 999.
$STL? requests the time set.
AVGM(?) {i} The AVGM command sets the averaging function to
OFF for i = 0, to NORMAL for i = 1, or to avergaing
for i = 2.
AVGM? requests the status of the averaging func-
tion.
VBIA(?) {i}
The VBIA command sets the DC BIAS of the
HM8118 to OFF for i = 0, to internal for i = 1, to
external for i = 2. This command will cause an error
message unless the HM8118 is set to capacitance
measurements (C + D or C + R).
VBIA? requests the status of the BIAS
IBIA(?) {i}
The IBIA command sets the DC bias current to
OFF for i = 0, to internal for i = 1, to external for i =
2. This command will cause an error message if
the HM 8118 is not set to inductor or transformer
measurements (L+Q, L+R, N+Θ or M).
IBIA? requests the status of the BIAS current.
BIAS(?) {x} This command sets the value of the HM 8118 BIAS
voltage or current. x may vary between 0.00 V to
5.00 V resp. 0 to 200 mA.
BIAS? requests the status.
CIRC(?) {i} The CIRC command defi nes the circuit used by the
HM8118: i = 0 defi nes a series, i = 1 a parallel cir-
cuit, i = 2 sets the instrument to the AUTO mode.
CIRC? requests the status.
CONV(?) {i} The CONV command sets the constant voltage to
OFF (i = 0), to ON (i = 1).
CONV? requests the status.
FREQ(?) {x} The FREQ command sets the measuring frequency,
its value is given by x in Hz. If intermediate values
are tried the instrument will use the next higher
available value.
FREQ? requests the status.
MMOD(?)
The MMOD command sets the trigger mode to con-
tinuous (i = 0), to manual (i = 1), to external (i = 2).
MMOD? requests the status.
