Radio mode: Radio Data System

Radio Data System is a service provided by radio stations. In addition to
traditional music and voice services, they also broadcast additional
information in the form of encrypted digital signals that can be displayed by
the car radio. This information - like the station name or the title of the track
currently being played - is shown in the display.
If the station does not broadcast RDS signals, the frequency will appear
instead of the station name.
If the station that transmits RDS signals also provides traffic information, you
will see "TP" ("Traffic Program" = traffic programme) in the display.

Alternative frequencies (AF button)

One function of RDS is the AF function in the VHF band ("AF" = "Alternative
Frequencies"). In RDS mode, once you leave the range of one transmitting
station, you will be automatically switched to another frequency. The change
is only successful if the PI codes are identical (the PI code is the Programme
Identification which clearly identifies the programmes and transmitting
chains). This avoids switching to a frequency that is occupied by a different
programme.
Briefly press the AF button to switch the AF functions for the Radio Data
System mode on or off. If the function is activated, you will see "AF" in the
display.
The AF indicator in the display flashes if no Radio Data System
information is available.
