IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Please read before use
Description
The Codman
Electrosurgical Irrigator (the Irrigator) is an irrigation control unit
®
designed for use with a bipolar electrosurgical generator, such as the Codman
Electrosurgical Generator or the CMC
Irrigator is connected to irrigating bipolar forceps using the Codman
Bipolar Cord and Tubing Set, Rotary Pump, either Flying Leads or Fixed Leads
(Cord and Tubing Set), to deliver irrigation fluid to the surgical field. Compatibility
with other generators has not been established. Delivery rate of irrigation fluid is
adjustable and is controlled by the operator.
Indications
The Irrigator is indicated to provide flow of irrigation fluid to the tips of bipolar
irrigating forceps during electrosurgery.
WARNING
Electrical shock hazard:
• Do not attempt to bypass the grounding prong on the module by using an
adapter. The Irrigator must be grounded properly to ensure operator and
patient safety. Grounding reliability can be achieved only when connected to a
receptacle marked "Hospital Only" or "Hospital Grade."
• Do not modify the Irrigator in any way. Unauthorized modifications to the
Irrigator can cause it to malfunction or fail in use.
• Do not connect multiple portable socket outlets (MPSO) or extension cords to
the Irrigator.
• To prevent injury to the patient and/or user, do not connect the Irrigator to any
item not specified as a recommended accessory.
• Use of unspecified items with the Irrigator could result in excessive leakage
current.
• Do not immerse the Irrigator in any type of liquid.
• Check the Power Cord and Interconnecting Cable for proper function prior to
use. Replace if necessary.
• The operator of this equipment must be a healthcare professional. The
operator must have experience in the use of surgical devices and procedures.
• Use in typical commercial or hospital environment, except in RF shielded room
for magnetic resonance imaging, where the intensity of EM DISTURBANCES is
high.
• Refer to the Guidance and Manufacturer's Declaration section for EMC
information.
Precautions
• Use only Codman Integrated Bipolar Cord and Tubing Set, Rotary Pump, either
Fixed Leads or Flying Leads with the Irrigator (Ref 9190001RP and 9190002RP).
• The Irrigator does not generate waste. Disposable products used with the
Irrigator must be disposed of in accordance with hospital procedures and
regulations.
• Portable and mobile RF communications equipment can affect electrical
medical equipment.
• Refer to individual Instructions for Use for additional information regarding
accessories or use with other devices.
Wiping
Wipe the exterior surfaces of the Irrigator as necessary with a soft, damp cloth or
sponge. Use 70% Isopropyl Alcohol wipes or a mild cleaning solution to remove
stains or adhesives that stick to the surface. Subjecting the Irrigator to excessive
moisture can damage the electronic components and nullify the warranty.
Never sterilize the Irrigator or Power Cord.

A. Display Screen
The screen shows the flow setting and/or operation mode.
B. Flow Setting Knob
Turning the flow setting knob clockwise increases the flow setting and turning it
counterclockwise decreases the flow setting of the Irrigator. The setting is visible
on the Display Screen.
C. Rotary Pump
The rotary pump drives flow through the Cord and Tubing Set in the direction
shown on the arrow above the pump hood.
D. Power Button
This button controls the primary AC power to the Irrigator. When the Irrigator is
ON the Display Screen and Power Button illuminate.
E. Pause Button
This button controls the Pause mode. When depressed, the Pause button
illuminates and a graphic is displayed on the screen.
F. Service Indicator Light
If the light is illuminated and flashing, an error condition has been detected by
the Irrigator.
REAR PANEL
G. Generator Connection Receptacle
The connection receptacle accepts the four-pin end of the Interconnecting
Cable.
H. Equipotential Connector
Connect a potential equalization conductor to a bus bar in rooms requiring
potential equalization. A bus bar is a grounded metal bar in a breaker box to
which all neutral and grounding wires are connected.
I. Power Receptacle
The power receptacle accepts the three-prong Power Cord plug.
