inspect valve seat for dirt or cracking.
3. Ensure that the head straps are intact and have good elasticity.
4. Examine all plastic parts for signs of cracking or fatigue.
5. Make sure all gaskets are properly seated.
6. Remove the exhalation valve cover and examine the exhalation valve and
valve seat for signs of dirt, distortion, cracking or tearing. Replace the
exhalation valve cover.
Undertake pre-use checks on 3M Filters / 3M Air Supply Units as outlined in
the appropriate User Instructions.
Assembly
See appropriate user instructions for assembly instructions (eg. 3M Filter
Leaflet, 3M Air Supply Units).
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
DONNING
1. Place the face piece over the mouth and nose, then pull the head harness
over the crown of the head (Figure 1).
2. Take the bottom straps in both hands, place them at the back of the neck and
hook them together (Figure 2).
3. Tighten the top straps first by pulling on ends to achieve a comfortable and
secure fit (Figure 3).
4. Tighten bottom straps using either front or rear adjustments (strap tension
may be decreased by pushing out on back side of buckles).
5. Perform a positive and/or negative pressure face fit check. The negative
pressure fit check is recommended when using the 3M™ 6035 / 2000
Series Filters (Figure 4), the positive pressure fit check is recommended
when using other 3M Filters (Figure 5).
FACE FIT CHECKS
Positive Pressure Face fit check (all filters except 3M™ 6035 / 2000 Series
Filters).
Place the palm of the hand over the exhalation valve cover and exhale gently.
If the face piece bulges slightly and no air leaks between the face and the face
piece are detected, a proper fit has been achieved.
If air leakage is detected, reposition the respirator on the face and/or readjust the
straps to eliminate the leakage.
Repeat the above face fit check (Figure 5).
Negative Pressure Face fit Check (3M™ 6035 / 2000 Series Filters).
Push the filter cover down or press your thumbs into the central indentation of
the filters, inhale gently and hold your breath for five or ten seconds.
If the face piece collapses slightly a proper fit has been achieved.

If air leakage is detected, reposition the respirator on the face and/or readjust the
tension of the straps to eliminate the leakage.
Repeat the above face fit check (Figure 4).
Face Fit Testing
For information regarding Face Fit testing procedures, contact 3M TechAssist
on 1800 024 464 (AUS), 0800 364 357 (NZ) or refer to AS/NZS 1715.
If you cannot achieve a proper fit, do not enter the contaminated area.
See your supervisor.
IN USE
Do not remove the face piece, filters or turn off the air supply until you have
vacated the contaminated area.
If during use the air supply stops or is reduced, vacate the contaminated area
immediately and investigate the cause.
If using with a 3M Air Supply Unit (see Reference Leaflet):
• take care to prevent the breathing tube from becoming looped around
protruding objects.
DOFFING
Do not remove the face piece, filters or turn off the air supply until you
have vacated the contaminated area.
1. Release the tension on the head straps by pushing on the back side of the
buckles.
2. Unhook the bottom straps.
3. Carefully lift face piece off the face by lifting up and away from the head.
4. If appropriate, switch off the 3M Air Filtering Unit or disconnect the
Compressed Air Supply Tube from the 3M Regulator.
5. Unbuckle the waistbelt.
NOTE
If the face piece has been used in an area that has caused it to become
contaminated with a substance requiring special decontamination
procedures it should be placed in a suitable container and sealed until it
can be decontaminated.

CLEANING INSTRUCTION

Cleaning is recommended after each use. Remove the gas / vapour and/or
particulate filters or disconnect the air supply unit.
Clean the face piece (excluding filters) with 3M 504 Respirator Cleaning Wipes
or by immersing in warm cleaning solution, water temperature not to exceed
50°C, scrub with soft brush until clean.
Add neutral detergent if necessary.
Do not use cleaners containing lanolin or other oils.
