Connecting the Test Leads

Only use the supplied test leads when using the digital multime-
ter. These have an electric strength of up to 1000 V and a current
carrying capacity of up to 10 A.
Warning! To avoid harms to you or damages to the meter from
electric shock, please do not attempt to measure voltages higher
than 250 V although readings may be obtained. This damage the
unit or lead to electric shocks with serious health problems. Be
extremely careful when measuring high voltages!

Measuring Categories

(formerly CAT I). This measuring category is intended for
taking measurements on circuitry not directly connected to the
power mains.
The measuring category CAT II is intended for taking meas-
urements on low-voltage circuitry. Examples for this are
household appliances, mobile electric devices or similar
equipment and as well as power sockets with a distance of
more than 10 m to CAT III sources and power sockets with a
distance of more than 20 m to CAT IV sources.
The measuring category CAT III is intended for taking meas-
urements on house installations. Examples for this are meas-
urements on switches, power sockets, distribution boxes,
three-phase buses, circuit breakers, wiring, terminal strips and
connection boxes on fixed house installation, but also for
measurements on industrial devices and equipment such as
permanently installed motors.
The measuring category CAT IV is intended for taking meas-
urements on sources of low-voltage installation, such as
counters or measurements on primary overload protection
equipment.
