INTENDED USE
12-Place
The 12-Place BD BBL™ Sensi-Disc™ self-tamping dispenser accommodates up to 12 cartridges of BD BBL Sensi-Disc susceptibility
test discs. It is used to deliver discs onto 150 mm-style Petri dishes when performing disc susceptibility testing, especially by the
standardized method. 1-4
6- and 8-Place
These BD BBL Sensi-Disc self-tamping dispensers accommodate either 6 or 8 cartridges of BD BBL Sensi-Disc susceptibility test discs
or BD BBL™ Taxo™ anaerobe differentiation discs. They are used to deliver discs onto 100 mm-style Petri dishes when performing disc
susceptibility testing or for the presumptive identification of gram-negative anaerobic bacilli.
WARNINGS AND PROCEDURES
6-, 8-, and 12-Place
For in vitro Diagnostic Use. Observe aseptic techniques and established precautions against microbiological hazards throughout all procedures.
After use, prepared tubes, specimen containers and other contaminated materials must be sterilized by autoclaving before discarding.
PRINCIPLES OF THE PROCEDURE
12-Place
Discs are dispensed when downward pressure is applied to the operating knob. This unit is designed to provide 33 mm distance between disc
centers. No adjusting ring is required to control the height of the dispenser base above the agar surface. The discs are placed in a consistently
uniform pattern as long as the depth of the agar is 3 to 5 mm thick and the height of the dish is less than 26 mm. The unit will automatically
tamp the discs onto the agar surface and, therefore, eliminates the need for this manual step. Each dispenser is provided complete with
interlocking base and cover to protect the unit from moisture when not in use.
6- and 8-Place
Discs are dispensed and tamped onto the agar surface by depressing the dispensing knob on the top of the dispenser. The step adjusting ring
is used to control the height of the dispenser base above the agar surface. Each dispenser is provided complete with a storage case to protect
the unit from moisture when not in use.
CARE OF THE DISPENSER AND STORAGE CASE
12-Place
1. If desired, the dispenser and protective base and cover may be wiped clean with water, isopropyl alcohol, or a 3% Lysol™ solution.
Do not use alkaline cleaning agents, organic solvents, or abrasive cleaners. After cleaning, always air-dry the unit thoroughly before
inserting cartridges.
2. Avoid the use of either an excessively cold or warm dispenser. Always allow it to reach room temperature before using. Return loaded
dispenser to refrigerator as quickly as possible after use. Do not store in freezer.
3. It is recommended that a desiccant be placed in the dispenser base to help maintain a low-moisture environment. Each cartridge is packed
with desiccant capsules that should be replaced each time the cartridges are replaced, or more often, as required. Each dispenser is
packed with a desiccant canister that should be regenerated when the silica gel, as viewed through the monitor window on the top of the
canister, has turned pink. To regenerate, heat the canister in a vented oven at 300 °F for approximately 3 hours or until the deep blue color
returns. Upon cooling, the canister may be reused and will be capable of re-absorbing moisture to its full capacity. Replacement desiccant
canisters can also be ordered.
