Warning

Siemens Building Technologies
Landis & Staefa Division
Before installing and commissioning this equipment, read these safety instructions and
warnings carefully. Also read and observe all the warning signs attached to the equip-
ment. Make sure that the warning labels are kept in a legible condition and replace any
missing or damaged labels.
The SED1 variable speed drive contains hazardous voltages and controls dangerous
rotating mechanical parts. Loss of life, severe physical injuries or equipment damage
may result if you do not follow the instructions. Only qualified personnel may work on
this equipment and only after becoming familiar with all safety notices, installation,
operation and maintenance procedures as contained in this manual.
Use only permanently wired input power connections. The equipment must be
grounded.
Note that the following terminals can carry hazardous voltages even when the
variable speed drive is inoperative:
Power supply terminals
Motor terminals
DC link terminals
Wait at least five minutes after the power has been turned off before opening the
equipment. The dc-link capacitor remains charged to hazardous voltages even
when the power is removed. Note that live parts are exposed and do not touch
these parts.
Connect variable speed drives with three-phase power inputs only to mains power
using a residual current-operated protective device (RCD) recommended by Landis
& Staefa (see EN 61800-1 as well as the engineering manual).
Note that certain parameter settings may cause the variable speed drive to restart
automatically once power is restored following an input supply failure.
Do not use the SED1 as an "Emergency Stop" mechanism
(see EN 60204, 9.2.5.4.).
Observe all general and regional installation and safety regulations relating to work
on high-voltage installations as well as regulations covering correct use of tools
and personal protective equipment.
The SED1 is capable of providing internal motor thermal overload protection in
accordance with section 42 of UL508C.
An external PTC may also be used (refer to the electrical installation).
This equipment is suitable for use in a circuit capable of delivering not more than
100,000 symmetrical amperes (rms.) for a maximum voltage of 230/460 V when
protected by a time delay fuse (for detailed information, see the engineering
manual).
Do not operate the motor with a higher nominal power than the variable speed
drive or a nominal power less than half that of the variable speed drive.
To prevent damage being caused to the variable speed drive and/or the motor
during long periods of use, enter motor parameters P080-P085.
When using the analogue input, set the DIP switches correctly and select the ana-
logue input type (P023) before enabling the analogue input with P006. If this is not
done, the motor may start inadvertently.
Opening the ventilator protection cover on frame size C allows you to access the
moving parts. Before opening make sure that the variable speed drive is com-
pletely voltage free.
