• Make sure that the motor and the variable speed drive are configured for the correct
supply voltage.
• Make sure that the input power supply is isolated before making or changing any
connections.
• The unit must be earthed .
• Do not apply power to the variable speed drive when the cover plate is not in place.
• Observe all general and regional installation and safety regulations pertaining to work
on high-voltage installations as well as regulations covering correct use of tools and
personal protective equipment.
• Use insulated hand tools on mains input and motor terminals. Hazardous voltages
can be present even when the variable speed drive is not operating.
•
Correctly earth all units.
•
Use only screened motor and control cables whereby the screen must be continu-
ous.
•
Keep the cable from the variable speed drive to the motor as short as possible and
not longer than 25m.
•
Ground cables at both ends using large surface area connections such as metal
clips; do not use pigtail connections.
•
Earth motor and control cables at both ends.
•
Make sure a perfect contact has been made between the backplate and the metal
body of the variable speed drive (see diagram below).
•
When a footprint EMC filter is used, place it underneath the SED1 variable speed
drive and properly earth it via the rear metal plate. To connect the EMC filter to the
input terminals of the SED1, use screened, properly earthed cables.
•
Use saw-tooth washers and galvanised mounting plates.
•
Use screened cables also in mounting cubicles.
•
Separate the control cables from the power connections as much as possible. If
control and power cables need to cross, arrange the cables so that they cross at a
90° angle if possible.
