7. Test set-up 3, conventional test

Conventional test set-up
For conventional tests (measurements), the surge protective devices to be tested have to be adapted via
their terminals, connecting leads or pins. The safety test clips included in delivery have to be used for sur-
ge protective devices with connecting leads or pins (see Figure, test set-up 3)! It is recommended to use
standard clamp test probes for testing surge protective devices with screw terminals (see Figure, test set-up
3). Depending on the connection technique, the protective devices to be tested have to be adapted to the
relevant connections be connected to the PM 20 tester via the two test cables (see Figure 5, test set-up 3).

Connection of the test cables

The swiched-off PM 20 SPD tester is connected via the test cables included in delivery:
Test cable (red) ⇒ to the output socket (red) of the PM 20

Test cable (black) ⇒ to the output socket (black) of the PM 20

(see Figure 5, test set-up 3).
Attention:
Ensure that the test location is set-up on an insulating surface and that no external devices are
located in the vicinity of the two test cables!
7.1.1
Connection of the power supply unit
The power supply unit is connected to the PM 20 via the jack plug adapter included in delivery
(see Figure 5, test set-up 3). Alternatively, the PM 20 tester can be operated via a 9 V battery.
