5.1

Connection of the test cables

The PA BXT test adapter is connected to the switched-off PM 20 SPD tester via the test cables
included in delivery:
PA BXT; input socket (red) ⇔ Test cable (red) ⇔ PM 20; output socket (red)

PA BXT; input socket (blue) ⇔ Test cable (black) ⇔ PM 20; output socket (black)

Connection of the power supply unit
The power supply unit is connected to the PM 20 via the jack plug adapter provided (see figure, test
set-up 1, page 10). Alternatively, the tester can be operated by means of a 9 V battery.
5.2

Test procedure

5.2.1
The PM 20 tester may only be switched on if the test set-up is touch-proof!
The protection module to be tested is inserted into the slot of the PA BXT test adapter. Then, the
cover of the PA BXT test adapter has to be closed (see figure, test set-up 1, page 10)!
5.2.2
For more detailed information on measurements required for testing a protection module, please
refer to the test scheme and the evaluation table (see pages 11 to 18). The test programme
(programme selector switch, test step selector switch and polarity selector switch) has to be set
before starting the measurement. When measuring, only one of the two slots may be occupied.
Protective device of BXT ... type
When testing protective devices of the BXT... type, only the upper slot may be used, which is

labelled BXT... on the left-hand side.
When inserting the protective device, make sure you connect in the right way round [IN/OUT] (IN

OUT/protected above the slot). For test programmes and test steps, which have to be carried out
for each protective device, please refer to the evaluation tables (see pages 11 and 13).
Protective device of BCT ... type
When testing protective devices of the BCT... type, only the lower slot may be used, which is

labelled BCT... on the left-hand side.
When inserting the protective device, make sure you connect in the right way round [IN/OUT] (IN

OUT/protected below the slot). For test programmes and test steps, which have to be carried out
for each protective device, please refer to the evaluation tables (see pages 15 to 18).
