6. Test set-up 2 using a PA DRL test adapter (DRL, DPL 1/10)

6.1

Connection of the test cables

The PA DRL test adapter is connected to the switched-off PM 20 SPD tester via the test cables
included in delivery:
PA DRL; input socket (red) ⇔ Test cable (red) ⇔ PM 20; output socket (red)

PA DRL; input socket (blue) ⇔ Test cable (black) ⇔ PM 20; output socket (black)

6.1.1 Connection of the power supply unit
The power supply unit is connected to the PM 20 via the jack plug adapter provided (see figure, test
set-up 2, page 22). Alternatively, the PM 20 tester can be operated by means of a 9 V battery.
6.2

Test procedure

6.2.1 The PM 20 tester may only be switched on if it is ensured that the test set-up is protected against
contact!
The protection module to be tested is inserted into the slot of the PA DRL test adapter. Then, the
cover of the PA DRL test adapter has to be closed (see figure, test set-up 2, page 22)!
6.2.2 For more detailed information on measurements required for testing a protective module, please
refer to the relevant test scheme and the evaluation table (see pages 21 to 23).
The test programme (programme selector switch, test circuit selector switch and polarity selector
switch) has to be set before testing. When measuring, only one of the two slots may be occupied.
Protective device of DPL 10 F ... type
When testing protective devices of the DPL 10 ... type, only the upper slot may be used, which is

labelled DPL 10 on the right-hand side.
When inserting the protective device, make sure it is connected the right was round [IN/OUT]!

(IN OUT at the left-hand side of the slot). For protective devices of the DPL 10... type the relevant
test programmes have to be carried out for each test circuit. Test circuits 1 to 10 are connected via
the test circuit selector switch (see page 22).
Protective device of DPL 1 ... type
When testing protective devices of the DPL 1 ... type, only the lower slot may be used, which is

labelled DPL 1 on the right-hand side.
When inserting the protective device, make sure it is connected the right was round [IN/OUT] (the

protective device is plugged into the relevant contact of the earthing bracket or slot). The lower slot
allows to test up to ten protective devices of DPL 1 ... type at the same time. Test circuits 1 to 10
are connected by means of the test circuit selector switch. The relevant test programmes have to be
performed for each test circuit (see page 24).
