The insulating element (insulating clearance) of the voltage detector must not contact live parts of an installation.
The test prod 2 of the voltage detector may contact live and earthed parts of an installation up to the red ring.
All PHE voltage detectors are provided with a category "S" test prod and are suitable for indoor and outdoor use
in all weather conditions. In wet weather conditions, however, they must not be permanently energised for more
than 1 minute.
The "voltage present" indication must appear if the line-to-earth voltage of the part to be tested is more than
45% of the nominal voltage. The "voltage present" indication must not appear if the line-to-earth voltage of the
part to be tested is equal to or less than 10% of the nominal voltage.
Note:
The values mentioned above only refer to voltage detectors for use in three-phase systems. The response values
of special versions (observe note on the rating plate!) for other systems such as single-ended or centre-earthed
monophase systems are rated according to the relevant system configuration.

Test procedure

Testing is only allowed if the "Notes on safe operation" of the relevant voltage detector are
observed (see chapter 4., page 6).

5.1 Functional test

A functional test must be performed before verifying absence of supply voltage.
When pressing the "TEST" button (for approximately 3 seconds; see Fig. 5.1), the indicator is
switched on and is checked for proper operation (response threshold). When pressing the "TEST" button,
the red light " " is illuminated, when releasing the "TEST" button, the green light "0" is illuminated.
The voltage detector is ready for testing (operational for approximately 40 to 60 seconds).
If the functional test cannot be performed properly, the batteries or lights have to be replaced (see 8.1 and
8.2). Repeat the functional test. If there is still no clear indication, immediately remove the voltage
detector from service and send it to DEHN + SÖHNE for repair.
