OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Digital Voltmeter
item no. 12 65 95: DVM 220
item no. 12 66 92: DVM 320

Prescribed use

The digital voltmeter module can be installed in other devices or in housings. The module
displays direct currents ranging from 0 to 200 mV (DC). By means of individual external circuits,
other physical quantities such as direct current or temperatures can also be displayed. In
addition to the measured value, various measuring units and the decimal point can be
displayed. The polarity is automatically displayed.
A display light is integrated; it can be supplied with the operating voltage or with 12 V/DC.
The module must not be operated at a voltage higher than 48 V/DC (by an
optional voltage divider).
For a voltage over 48 V the respective instructions concerning clearances
to air and leakage paths for the shock protection must be complied with.
The safety distance to dangerous contact voltages/wires must always be
observed and adhered to.
The measuring input is separate from the power supply and must not be connected.
The power supply of the module comes from an external 9 V/DC power supply unit.
The connection is at the back of the module in a pin contact strip. You will have to set some
soldering links for the selection of the measuring units. There is a data hold function to "freeze"
the measuring value.
The module is intended to be installed in a housing or into other devices. The product is only
to be used in dry indoor locations.
No part of the product must be modified or rebuilt! Always observe the safety instructions!
Safety Instructions and Danger Warnings
To ensure proper operation of the voltmeter, please read these operating
instructions completely before you use the product.
• In case of any damages which are caused due to failure to observe these operating
instructions, the guarantee will expire! We do not assume any liability for resulting
damages!
• Nor do we assume liability for damage to property or personal injury, caused be improper
use or the failure to observe the safety instructions! The guarantee will expire in any such
case!
• The module is not a toy and should be kept out of reach of children.
• The module is CE-conform and complies with the required European directives.
• Please handle solder guns with special care. Observe their operating instructions. Heat the
soldered joint only as long as necessary and as short as possible.

Installation

Prepare the installation section. For the respective dimensions please see the enclosed data
sheet.
Press the module into the prepared opening after connection.
Connection
A) Overview of the PCB
All the connections and functional soldering links are made on the back of the module.

B) Selection of the measuring unit
ww w.voltcraft. de
Select the necessary measuring unit and the decimal point
you need for your measuring section from the illustration
on the right and set the respective soldering link to "ON".
Version 12/06
Example: illustration on the right.
C) Connection of the pin contact strip CN1
The electric connection of the module is done in the pin contact strip.
For the respective functions please refer to the following table:
Measuring input "IN HI" and "IN LO"
"IN HI" and "IN LO" are differential inputs. They react to the voltage applied and not to the
voltage relative to the operating voltage. As a measuring voltage only direct voltage may be
applied.
The maximum voltage to earth potential must not exceed 48V. If you want to measure a voltage
greater than 48V, please observe the respective safety instructions.
Operating voltage "VDD" and "VSS"
The operating voltage (VDD) must be in the range of 7-12 V/DC (-0.5V/+1V). Do not go below
or above this voltage, because the measuring results would be inaccurate and the module
would be destroyed.
Replace the battery immediately or set the input voltage to the correct value.
Display light "BL+" and "BL-"
The display light can be switched on by applying a voltage of either 9 V/DC or 12 V/DC.
The series resistors for the lights (LEDs) are integrated in the module. If the operating voltage
is to be 9 V/DC, a soldering link must be set at CN2 (see illustration).
DVM 320
Please set all the fields you do not need to
"OFF", or they cannot be blanked out clearly.
